new battery - radio code

I'm thinking of renewing the battery in my 2001 XJR. I presume disconnecting the old one will mean I need to enter a radio code? If so where will I find this? - I can't see anything obvious in all the manuals etc I have for the car.

Sould be with your books, if not give your local deeler the chassis number or car reg and they will give it to you

You may gave to give proof of ID ect

Windows will need resetting as well
Drop the window all the way down and keep you finger on the button for about 5 secs untill you hear a click
Then all the way to the top, again keeping your finger on the button for about 5 secs untill you hear a click

Yes, I had to do this once and the dealership will give you the code if needed; didn't have any problems with the windows though! but useful tip.

Does anyone have any suggestions on make/model of battery? I bought a "bosch silver" for my TVR a few years ago and that has been really good.

Can anyone advise what resetting the windows achieves/means? I note that on my 2002 XJR I can't open the windows with the keyfob by holding arm/disarm as I could on the X300 XJR - this couldn't be fixed by the window reset procedure could it...? Cheers

Sometimes if the car has had the power disconnected, or a battery replaced, all the basic settings from the windows are erased, or forgotten, by the control module. In effect the window motor does not know where the maximum open and maximum closed points are, so won't travel on the one touch option to fully open or closed. By fully opening and closing the window, and holding your finger on the button for a further 3-5 seconds then re-programmes the control module so that it knows where the fully open or closed point is, therefore allowing you to open and close the windows with the one touch option or by the total closure/opening feature through your remote keyfob. Well I eventually bought a Bosch Silver replacement (model S4 013) - its slightly more powerful than the Jaguar (varta) original and cost me about £100 inc vat from local motor factors. There are a couple of slightly cheaper alternatives available online but I prefer to pay a bit extra hopefully for quality and longevity. Massive difference in speed of starter turnover as expected - the original battery lasted really well though, as made in early 2001.

Managed to obtain the radio code from Jaguar dealer in Poole free of charge over the phone - they just needed the chassis number. The bonus is that the radio reset and now the RDS works - I couldn't work out how to switch it on before.

Windows also reset for one touch operation, so thanks for that tip.
