HI
I need another advice from Jag guys how to change timing chain and tensioners on X300 3.2 AJ16. I have rattle when enigne is hot and after a while I`m starting it, also at certain rpm while driving. I thought that it might be it so change upper secondary tensioner but no improvment. I think If I want to keep the car that`s the thing I`d start with.

For the X300 you can get the service manuals from the JEC and various other places.

Pretty sure this has recently been covered in Jaguar World mag. Give thema ring & they should be able to provide back issues.

felga,

Earlier this year I copied the Jaguar World articles about the tensioners replacment. I have them in pdf format. If you would like me to e-mail them to you, e-mail me and I will do so.

Sound to be to be a suspect big end rattle. Normally these engines will still be good at 250k miles or more provided good oil changes have been carried out, unless it has been run out of oil.I have changed many an oil pressure sensor,to just one chain tensioner. so it would be worth putting a master gauge to check it.
Plenty of second hand engines available if it has the death rattle

I have the old version of guage , it`s either half way or bottom when engine off. I change oil every year, and there are no sounds comming from the bottom or head, it`s the front of the engine . Firstly I thought it`s manifold heatshield.
