XJS Antenna Motor - Question

My '95 XJS ariel has died. I ordered a replacement kit. Has anyone replaced one of these before? Is it a pain?

I had to replace one on my friends 1991 3.6. It wasn't too bad a job, if it's the same on the facelift cars it shouldn't be a problem. It was hidden behind a carpeted trim panel behind the light cluster on the right hand side ot the car and once the panel was off it was easy to get to. The little bezel that screws on to the top where it comes through, was a bit tricky.

Nowhere as near as bad as the S3 XJ6 where its about 5 feet away from where the aerial motor is.

I currently have 2 S3's and both of them need new antennas and motors, i can see what a pain it will be as i have removed the old ones already..

Remember to replace that big green relay that sits alongside the motor. When it "forgets" to kill the power at full extension, or full retraction, that's it. Bye bye aerial. The motor gear chews up the little plastic toothed line that operates it.

I got bored of it on my series 3 (now gone), and had a manual aerial on it. I've got a series 1 now with no radio and no aerial... and no speakers.

Cheers for the heads up! I do fancy maybe getting an alternative antenna and filling the holes in the body..
