X308 XJR gearbox dipstick

Hi,

Does anyone know the cost, or even a part number for the dipstick for the Mercedes gearbox that is fitted to the X308 XJR. ?

Pop into your local jag dealer, they will (or at least should) have one, and be able to get the special tool number from it and order you one.

Looks like a bicycle brake cable with a plastic end on it, if thats any help.

Don't buy the Jaguar one, not just because of the price, it is terrible to use due to it being to flexible, so only buy a MB one like above as.

Didnt realise there was an alternative, cant recall the bendy one being a pain, but its been a few years since I used one now. Avos you clearly know your stuff.

Borrowed once the Jaguar dipstick, and the difficulty was that the tube makes 2 bends, and to get the lower measuring part over the last bend was tricky. The MB (heavy duty one) just pushes in without any fiddling.

Just got part of this, where is the dipstick located on the car?

Thanks for the replies, a freind had the bendy Jag one so that did the trick today, I will keep an eye out for the Merc one. The tube that takes the dipstick is located behind the offside cam cover, should have a little plastic cap saying something like MB service.

Found the cap that says MB service only, but guess what,thats all it is a cap. No dipstick attached to it.

Whats the point of that I ask myself, why would it not be there ?

I assumed that there would be a dipstick in there from manufacture, obviously there isn't !

Not at all, all my other automatics have had a proper dipstick in place, I was quite surprised that you cant get one to leave in there, even the MB one needs to be removed as it cant take the heat.
