After 6 months of owning a Jag, the engine check light came on last week. Visited main dealer yesterday for fault code to be checked, waited an hour and a half for it to be diagnosed as a faulty lambda sensor.Does it take this long to read a fault code?
I thought that because it is just a screw in item, shouldn't take that long..........quoted £267 fitted! Cost of part £88 with hourly labour rate at £120!Looks like I will be using a local indy from now on.

If anyone can recommend a reliable source for this part, please let me know.Part No; C2C22679.

Have used BritishParts.co.uk before - http://www.britishparts.co.uk - you might have to call them though as I couldn't find your part number but they did have a load of Jag lambda sensors

Get the fault code cleared and see if it comes back first, lots of things look like a lambda initially

Yesterday I too had a Jaguar Dealer experience....it was brilliant. After messing around with brakes on my 2003 XJR with my local independant, I finally bite the bullet and booked it into the dealer, who had drove the car and said the genuine discs that I'd bought were either defective and or fitted incorrectly and that XJR's were difficult to setup brakes.

A lot of time was spent on the car checking run out, refitting, test driving, checking run out of discs again and then declaring the the discs were defective. They got the parts replaced FOC from Jaguar, got free labour time from Jaguar, gave me two hours free and then discounted the remaining labour by 20%. All in all a good experience and I would go back. Well done Minster Jaguar Preston.

PS: I have used another Jaguar dealer (Stratstone) and they were terrible. The two could not be different.

Fault code has been cleared, no recurrence of problem so far. Went and spoke to a local garage who have the facility to read and reset the codes so i will be using them from now on. Oh, and my local main dealer is a stratsone branch who took £41 off me to read the code!

Don't know about the X type but I had the same thing on my old Vectra (melted it on a track day) should take less then 10 mins to read the code (you just plug a hand held device into the ecu plug and read it) and yes, they just plug into the exhaust. Bit tricky if the car isn't on ramps but otherwise it's very easy.
