S Type 2.7 D service cost

Bought the car 12 months ago from a main dealer (05 plate)with 28k on the clock, so prior to me purchasing it was service on time, every 12 months, as the previous owner never reached 15k / year.

It had a service after 15k (43k on clock), but the cost was met by the dealer as part of the purchase deal so was never sure of the cost or type of service.

I have now covered a further 15k, and the dealer is saying it needs a major service c/w brake fluid change (which should be done every 2 years?).

Q1 - Should the brake fluid be change as frequently as every 2 years, and what happens if you don't follow the recomendation?
Q2 - What sort of money should a main service be, I am been quoted 460 plus brake fluid change.

Sorry, can't advise on the cost but assuming your car is out of warranty can advise you to find a decent local independant mechanic to do the work. If you post your county on here someone might be able to recommend a garage. There are good and bad stories about dealers, and likewise with independant garages, but you should save £££ using and independant. I've been very dissatisfied with a Jag dealer and when I complained to Jaguar themselves they said take it up with the dealer!

The costs on average at the dealers are anything form £92 to £120 per hour. Specialists average around £50/65 per hour and will on the whole be as capable to carry out a the same service/ repair with far greater care, at a more affordable price. Staffing within most dealers suffer from apathy, this inturn affects the quality of the work . Too much emphasis on bonus, too little on customer care and service and too many managers who know best.
Ask around and act on recommendation, even if it means travelling.

As for the brake fluid change we would check the moisture content of yours and recomend a change or not based on that.

Thanks for the link, shame you aren't a bit closer, I live in Swindon. Ended up paying £415 for a 90k service.

Had the car serviced at the local main dealer, Can't argue with customer service, it was 1st class, but not sure now the car is 4 1/2 years old, and me doing 30k / year, that I should be paying main dealer prices, it's a serious % of the value of the car.

Haven't found a local Jag specialist anywhere near Swindon, so am condidering using a good 'non Jag'local independant for normal service items, oil, filters etc, and just use the main dealer for those jobs requiring specialist equipment, as and when required.

Have to see how I feel in 6 months after another 15k!

I thought brake fluid change was every 3 years, better still test it and change on requirement - most dealers should have a tester that will give a very accurate reading of quality and the need to change
