Doesn't sound right, I have a 2.7 S Type, 35mpg life time, 39 - 40 mpg on a long moterway run.
On paper the 3 ltr XF should do more.
Have you checked what goes in the tank = sub 30 mpg, it's just as likely to be the trip computer been wrong as the engine I would have thought.
Prior to the Jag I had a 3 ltr deisel Saab 95 from new. The mpg only increased by about 3mpg once it was worn in (10K miles), but again, that was only what the computer told me.

I have the same model and I'm only getting around 31mpg average at fairly gentle driving.
This is way below the official combined figures for the Jaguar and also way below my previous car which was an Audi A5 3.0 TDi which had almost identical performance and official mpg figures.
I was getting around 40mpg from the Audi.
I have see similar postings on other forums. Makes you wonder how valid these official figures are.

My diesel became more economical when it passed 80,000 miles. Now it runs a treat at 170,000 and whereas before used about 2 litres in 12,000 now uses half that. Diesels take a hell of a lot of running in. However, I can't understand a fuel consumption as low as that when the official urban figure is 30mpg, the extra urban 51mpg and the mixed 42mpg. Either you are wearing lead shoes or the car needs sorting.
Modern diesels can take a fair old bit running in these days...so giving it a good hoof every so often is recommended!
I've heard BM drivers taking upto 20,000 miles before they're fully loosened up (diesel, not petrol). Also, heavy cars with auto boxes are very poor on economy around town and in stop start driving...it's on runs and at cruising speed where you get the decent/best MPG

spoke to a jaguar dealer today he says it should get better with more miles but i dont think that is good enough with the mpg they advertise when trying to sell them also before anyone thinks about buying one for towing check that you can get a towbar it took me about 15 phone call to customer services who could not find one anywhere yet they are happy to have on there web site that camping and caravanning have given it top tow car
My 56 plate S type 2.7 TDI se Auto is currently showing 39.3 ave for the last 4,000 miles (used on a daily basis for commuting and work). It has done 66K.
Best measured consumption was a trip earlier in the year from Ayrshire to Warwickshire (mainly motorway). By sticking to the speed limits and appropriate use of cruise control I averaged 50.1 for the trip. It is worth noting that if it is an Auto, leaving the sport button on ruins the fuel consumption.
