Jaguar warranty
Discussion
SWMBO`s XJ will be out of warranty in January. The car has covered 57k and hasnt had too many problems, though it was back last week for a suspension arm. Are there any alternatives to the Jag warranty and if so how comprehensive are they. While we are at it, how good is the Jag extended warranty. Dealer is quoting around a grand for 1 year.
You could try Warranty Direct
But personally I don't bother with any form of warranty on anything
Overall you will save a load of money, OK on something you could be out of pocket but overall you won't
Likewise with the Jaguar, say five years at £1,000 thats £5,000 one year may have to pay out more than £1,000 but NOT every year.
Likewise go to a good Jaguar Independant and he will save you even more

funnily enough just phoned to extend mine for another 2 years from Jan. It is around £1800 & includes Jaguar assist which has always been fantastic. I've had WH type warranties in the past & everything has been a fight. Also the Jaguar warranty is very comprehensive, probably better than the WH one.
At least with this I just shout at Jaguar!
As for running without just too complex to take the risk, if the diesel HP goes it is circa £1500!

I've heard good reports of the CSMA Club/Car Car Plan warranty although you need to qualify to join the CSMA Club in order to get it... and all Jags are excluded from their standard (extremely low) tariff.

I have extended my Jaguar Warranty three years in a row. It's up for renewal again at the end of this month. This will be my final time because the car will have got to 100,000 by this time next year and renewal will not be possible, at least the Jaguar warranty. I will be getting a quote for the renewal on Wednesday, and I expect it to be around £1000 as in the past.
Has it been worth it? Hmm, difficult to be sure. Cost of the extensions so far is around £3300 but as I have had two gearboxes under the extended warranty as well as more routine work such as new rear wheel bearings (and maybe fronts this week), MAF sensor and heater valve all replaced, and other minor bits and pieces done,I'm pretty sure I am "in credit".
There's also the peace of mind issue that comes with the warranty and also Jaguar's breakdown cover, although touch wood I have not had to use the latter.
One thing to watch out for is to make sure the extended warrany is a Jaguar one rather something from another company eg Warranty Direct. Having the Jaguar one has been the decisive feature as to why I have carried on with them. I have to say the JMD I use and Jaguar UK have been no trouble at all for getting approval to work being done under warranty, unlike the tales I have read about for other companies' warranties.
Something else to consider too: any replaced part is warrantied only until the current warranty expires. So, if you have a new engine, say, it is warrantied for quite a short period, not for something like another three years just because it's a major new part.

A follow up to my previous post above...
Car was at the JMD I use yesterday for it's Mot. It passed but with an advisory regarding the n/s rear suspension. JMD has contacted Jaguar UK and they have agreed the work can be done under this year's extended warranty. The parts, I was told, are around £500, then there's labour....more credit earned for the warranty!
While at the JMD I discussed another year's extention on the warranty and after gulping at the £1500 cost, decided to go for it.
Something else I found out about the warranty: earlier I referred to it not being capable of extention beyond 100,000. This is not quite right. As long as the mileage is under 100,000 at the time of wanting to extend, the warranty will be for a full year irresepctive of mileage. For example, this time next year my car will be close to around 99,000 miles, and as long as I renew my warranty by 20 December 2010 with mileage below 100,000 at that time I can extend it until 20 December 2011 and whatever mileage will be OK. Therafter, an extention will no longer be possible.
I'm not sure I'll go ahead with the warranty extention next year...99,000 miles, new timing tensioners etc due at that time probably, a further expense for me to bear.
