Help a confused geezer.

I know that a 1998 XJR does not have a LSD, a mechanic started telling me abouta "power lock" diff on this car, but it was brief and I didn't take notes.

Can anyone tell me what he meant, or better still exactly what is fitted as standard on th 98 XJR diff wise ?

And a replacement oil recommendation forthe same diff ?

Thanks

Your car only has ABS that is if a wheel spins the engine ECU will cut down power

If you want a Limited Slip Diff in you need to contact TLJaguar on 0118-976-2899
He has has some made for the XJ8/R and the XK8/R

What a difference it makes, best mod to my car.

Hi,

So this power lock is another term for what you just described ?

Will an oil suitable for LSD suffice ? Opie oils man has said so.

Your car has no LSD in it at all

A Power lock used clutches so locking the wheel that spins, one form of LSD

The one I have has a progressive action so never locks just splits the power transmitted to the driving wheel as required giving optimum traction

This is the only LSD available that is made for the V8 XJR

Thankyou for the clarification. Now I know exactly whats on the car I can do something about the oil and whine that comes from it. This noise occurs when lock is on the car and at slow speed, typical example when parking and using full lock both sides. This is not the stress that can occur on the pump when full lock is held.

There may be a case of someone putting the incorrect oil when the diff was serviced.

Will be good to see you there

OK I'm quite happy to fill in the gaps

As you all know Tom is the mechanic that looks after my car, that is a standard company/customer relationship
Yes we do deals as he can use my car to experiment on with new upgrades, works both ways.

Regarding the LSD's
I desperately wanted one on my XKR. as you know with a LOT of BHP getting it down on the road was a problem
As there wasn't an 'Off the shelf' product I contacted Quaife to produce one but they would only make a minimum number or a lager minimum number to cut the unit price.
As this was a large outlay for TLJ and even RGC could not justify the expense I was prepared to put my hand in my pocket to get the units off the ground. So I have to admit that I do require a return on my outlay.

The same with the 'Manual Gearbox Conversion' I am the one that is pushing to get a viable product off the ground, being a 'Professional product' at an affordable price.
