As you know, the XJ8's steering wheel is electricaly adjustable and forms part of the memory pre-set functionality.
But here's something odd - I set it to exactly how I want it on a memory pre-set which is so that the bottom of the top run of the wheel rim is exactly in line with the top of speedo...in other words so that the wheel rim doesn't intrude into the speedo space.

When you exit the car the wheel moves up and the seat moves back automatically.

Now when I get back in the car the seat & wheel are supposed to move back to where they were before, which in my case is as per the memory pre-set...except the wheel doesn't, it moves to slightly lower than it should be and intrudes into the speedo space.
Pressing the memory pre-set does nothing.

It's only a small thing I know and it only takes a nudge to get it right but it's begun to irritate me intensly.

"I don't want it where you think it should be, I want it set to where I told you it should be set!!!"

Is there anything I can do?
Does anyone else notice this too?

I can't help with the car issue, but do you have a back problem at all?

I shrink about an inch anc a half during the course of a day (don't worry, everything goes back to normal overnight). I notice that my view through the wheel changes from the morning to the evening, so I always lose the top of the dials in the morning, but is fine in the evening. silly

Pragmatic answer might be to set it by the same amount in the opposite direction - then if the error is consistent it will come back to where you want it.

I have discovered the cause of the problem...I think.

For some reason I'd been setting the memory with the car in gear.
Once I'd set it with it in Park it now behaves itself and returns to position as it should.

And yet as far as I know, setting the memory in gear still works - well it bongs in acknowledgement anyway.

Hey ho...bloody odd cars.
