XJ 3.2 V8, under bonet battery positive terminal??
Discussion
Hi, can anyone tell me if and where the positive terminal is under the bonnet of my Dad's 2001 XJ 3.2 please? He took the battery out to charge then shut the boot and can't get it open with the key!! It's siezed solid, it's probably never been used in the car's life!!! I was going to get him to connect the battery via jump leads in order for him to open the boot with the remote.
I'm assuming there is one, but as I am away from home working just now, and he's not that technically minded or willing to look, I thought I would ask on here then I can call him with some instructions!

From memory - I'm away from home at the 'mo so I can't go outside and check - there are two, both by the sides of the two black fuseboxes under the bonnet on the lefthand inner wing.
I'd be a bit reluctant to power up the electrics this way 'tho, just in case the battery terminals are earthed or shorted in the boot. Half an hour with some WD 40 and gentle key turning would be a good place to start.

I know, I was thinking about the battery terminals dangling about in the boot. Then I was hoping, as they are relatively heavy cables, and with it being so cold they would be fairly ridgid and wouldn't have drooped much. But I agree, it's worth trying to free off the lock first.
From memory, do you know if the boot area can be accessed via the rear seat? I'm not sure if there is a "ski" style hatch behind the rear arm rest??

No you won't get into the boot by taking the rear seat out.
Trying to free the lock off really is the only option IMO. It's a common problem as the boot key never gets used, but 9 times out of 10 some paitence and WD 40 will get you in there in the end. If it were my car I'd not even contemplate connecting a battery to the engine compartment terminals with the battery leads dangling in the boot.

I'm having exactly the same problem!!
Is there any way to get into the boot other than by using the key in the boot lock?? I've been trying WD-40 every other day now for a couple of weeks with no joy, fortunately I haven't needed to use the car! If noone has any suggestions I can think of no other way than to break in by bursting the boot lock!! Not a good option!!!

There is a way, but I am not going to be the one posting it one here, try searching for people in a similar situation who were then told to remove the numberplate.
My search function is not working right now!! Can anyone explain a bit more about removing the number plate? Do you need to remove the number plate and cut through the boot?? http://www.skjagtech.co.uk/support-pages/x30x/lock... (no affiliation)
