Hi,

Do any of you guys have any experience with an inexpensive code reader and reset tool on your X308 model XJ8 Jags? I'm not a heavy diy-er so just require something basic for occasional use. Maybe you've picked up something perfectly functional on ebay?

Also, do you know where I can find a X308 fault code list?

Many thanks,

Jon

I picked up one from www.talktomycar.co.uk which turned out to be great, for about £60 (2yrs ago).... and yes, it allows you to reset any faults, of course unless it's fixed, the fault will re-appear with time.

I have a list of codes from the JTIS cd, but you can find some of the generic codes by searching on the web.

It is not a 'fix it' tool, but moreover gives you a pointer in the diagnosis process to see what may have caused a fault to show up.

Good luck wink

Got my scanner and just tested it on my loaned Ford Focus!
Will be looking at Jags over the weekend.

Whereabouts is the diagnostic port exactly on an X308 XJ8?

Thanks,

Jon

You will find it in the drivers footwell, located up near the heater outlet.

Yes, you can diagnose in comfort, sat on the passenger seat, instead of a lot of cars where you have to stand about with the bonnet up. It's actually much better, a mate of mine has some software & adaptor for the laptop so you can plug it in and watch the values from all the sensors as you drive along! (obviously the passenger watches the laptop while the driver watches the road!)
