Yep - that's the bodykit - I quite like it.
However I'm sure I've seen 'XS' models without it and certainly pre-07...
It won`t be an XS if it hasn`t got that bodykit on, it will be a Sport like mine. However I'm sure I've seen 'XS' models without it and certainly pre-07...
And yes the Mercury wheels are a b
d to clean and keep that way and they`re very prone to corrosion.Simpo Two said:
Hmm, there must be some S-Types with the same bodykit on by coincidence - there was a grey 2004 one recently sold on here that had a walnut dash.
Yeah come to think of it I`m pretty sure at first the bodykits could be selected as an option but brought out the XS model because they had loads to get shot of coming to the end of the S types run.The body kits were available before from 2004-2005 ish. Dealer fit option, stick on + a few screws, I hated fitting them.
If your viewing one make sure the kit is firmly attached.
I'd gone before X an XS, but end of runs cars like that are generally the best, most of the faults in production ironed out (they had a drain hole in the boot floor for example) Lots of previously costly options thrown in for same price as a much more basic car. Gets rid of parts that would become obsolete and makes sure the last few cars (when everybody is waiting for the next new jag) get sold.
First production run of a new model, always have the most problems.

Likewise, the spare kits that ended up lying around the dealer network were often fitted to used stock that hadn't sold and needed sprucing up.

Not quite.
There were two run out models, each with the bodykit referred to, the XS (which was the Sport equivalent) and the Spirit, which was I think the SE equivalent. Manual was no longer available. Plus of course they kept making the STR right to the end.
Quite a few S-Type owners seem to have bought the kit and added it to their pre-07 models. Can't understand why because the traditional Jaguar vertical strakes imho always look better than the ubiquitous mesh, which, frankly, everyone's got.

Each to their own, I`ve got a mesh grill but loathe the body kit. What a car!! A few days in and I've been nothing but impressed with my new XS. It genuinely makes me feel like I'm driving something special. I'm a first time Jaguar owner and I think the bodykit and mesh look awesome as has everyone who've spoken to about it. Personally the normal 'chromed up' versions don't do anything for me.
Anyway it's a broad church and I've been bitten by the Jaguar bug. Especially after spotting that I was sitting in an XJ & XF convoy this afternoon on the M42
