XF gear problem

Hi there.

Newbie in the Jaguar forum but I have a friend who has a problem with his XF. The gear selector pops up ok but won't turn to select a gear. Any ideas chaps? ?

That is indeed what has happened. Will post the findings, although I am suspecting a sucking of teeth and "software problem" type explanation.
