53 plate X Type dead key fob

Hi, a am borrowing a X type off a friend at the moment and the alarm keyfob is dead as a dodo. I have replaced the battery and tried to reprogram it but nothing. Should i presume a new fob is required or could it be something else i have missed? Cheers

Have you tried this ?

To reprogram key fob

1)Insert the key and turn to position I.
2)Quickly turn the key to position II and back to I (repeat four times)
3)You should hear a confirmation tone.
4)Turn the key all the way back and remove.
5)Now press any button on the key fobs to be added (you must do all the Fobs at the same time) and you should hear a confirmation tone for each.
