Thinking of buying a Jaguar X-Type.
Discussion
Hi guys,
First time posting on here so go easy!
Thinking of buying an X-Type in the next week. Don't want anything too slow, so looking for a manual 3.0 petrol on a 52/03 plate with a lowish mileage. Anyone own one of these? Are they reasonably quick to drive? Anything to look out for? Potential problems? Any tips or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers in advance!

We have a 3Lt manual estate with all the goodies
Good car, verry pleased with it.
The only problem we did have was with the SatNav/conrol screen. that was done under warrenty
That would have been a £££ job to do but speaking to my Independant Jaguar specialist he said that if it was out of warrenty he could have found some good S/H parts to have fixed it

Not really, you have chosen the correct model. I'd also opt for the 'Sport' over the SE. It isn't blistering quick, but the manual 3.0 I found very enjoyable to drive hard. Go for the full leather interior and get all the toys. The 3.0 in Saloon guise is quite hard to find on the used market so be patient.

Having just bought one myself (an 05 2.5 manual) I much prefer the 2.5 over the 3.0. It isn't as quick but the engine is much smoother and revs better. Not slow but not gonna win any drag races either (unless your racing a 330xi As with any pricey car be sure to get one with a solid service history. Depending on your budget remember all those bells and whistlss are expensive to fix. Keep it simple!
Wish Jag sold the estate manual here, I'd own 2!

I found to my surprise (browsing on Autotrader) that there are no diesel automatics. If you want a diesel, it seems you have to stir the cogs yourself.
They did do one towards the end of it's life...but on the 2.2d. I'd assume you'll be paying quite a bit for one of those though?!hoppington said:
I had heard the 2.5 is underpowered? Is this true? Found a 2.5 from a main dealer at a good price. Really fancied the 3.0 but if the 2.5 is reasonably quick, it may be worth a look.
I wouldn't say the 2.5 was underpowered, OK the 3Lt is better but the 2.5 is no slouchUnless you can smoke all 4 wheels through all 5 gears any car is underpowered. I've found the 2.5 to be more than satisfying for driving. Merges fine, passes fine. Sure the 3.0 is a little quicker but it also sounds a fair amount rougher and more mechanical. I'd prefer the 3.0 with an auto but the 2.5 with a 5 speed.
Just thought I'd update you guys, going to look at one on tues/wed. 59,000 miles 2003 2.5 petrol sport £5,000 no warrenty . Hopefully it'll be a good one, any ideas on cost of a 60,000 service and what will need done? I'm really looking forward to getting back in a petrol car after three years of devils fuel!
