Hi there, i have just bought - but not yet seen, a 1997 xk8.

It is not modified, so does anyone know the likely tyre size? It looks like it may need new tyres all round, and i shudder to think what that will cost.....

Early XK8 were 245/50 x 17 front and rear

I don't think the 18" wheels came in untill the XKR came out in 1998
If they are 18" then 245/45 on the front and 255/45 on the rear

As for tyres everyone has the choice but I use Toyo Proxis T1-Rs

Whatever you do, don't replace with Pirellis. Go for the Toyos, if they can survive the way Norman drives then they must be pretty good and very tough. Right Norm thumbup

17" tyres are quite rare in the size for the XK8 , unless you really like them it can be cheaper to buy a set of 18" and choose any tyre except Pirelli wink

That is a thought, infact I do have a set of 18" 'Double 5' (they are the ones that were fitted to the XKR)if you are interested, PM me.

Interesting - that is what is on the car......i have not actually got the car yet - i wrote in the gassing column about how i bought it on ebay as a price of 4.4k seemed worth a risk.
Its had a new engine and gearbox 15k miles ago and comes with all receipts and a private plate which i have been offered 1k on one of those websites....so even if it is a bit duff i can spend some cash on bringing it back to a decent standard!
Thanks for your offer and the advice - very valuable and i appreciate it all.
