i used to own an old style xk8 then moved on to MB s, cls and now clk variant and was tempted to go back to the xk8 but wondered what the new one was like?

Any gremlins with the engine? Whats the fuel economy like with the new aluminum body?

What is the standard spec like and what are the must have options when buying one of these?

Oh and lastly are the rear seats any better?

I've never driven the NA XK8, but I'm assuming you'd consider the R too?

Fuel economy for the XKR is pretty reasonable. 26/27 is easy on a long run - if you're driving like a saint, 30mpg is achievable quite easily; 22/3 normal; will hit single figures if really gunning it. But on a hoon, 14-16 is normal.

standard spec is good I think. I'd definitely try to find one with front parking sensors. Extended leather/luxury pack or whatever they called it, is very nice. B&W audio is very good. I'd just get the exhaust done too; the standard one is far too quiet unless the valves are open.

Back seats - yes you can get ppl into them, but it's a real squeeze and it looks really uncomfortable.

New XK is light years better than the outgoing steel XKs. Engine sorted, so no issues there. The 4.2/5.0 V8 engine revs freely unlike the predecessor, so expect low to mid-20's mpg. Coupled with the fablous 6 speed auto, it is as fast as the outgoing steel XKR & the new 5ltr XK is just as fast as the aluminum 4.2 XKR!

If you are looking at the 4.2 XK, make sure you have the lux sport leather interior. (perforated leather seat facings) it is now standard on the 5.0. A few early elec issues should now all be sorted, make sure you check the fit and finish on the v early examples. Make sure you get the 20 inch rims!
