Moving from the TVR Sagaris to the Jaguar XFR
Discussion
Hello Jaguar owners - I've just moved over from the TVR Sagaris forum.
My beloved TVR Sagaris is up for sale - I don't want to sell her but 2 baby boys means it has to go - just not using it enough.
I've bought a Jaguar XFR by way of compensation - its the complete antithesis of the Sag in some ways (quiet, loads of gadgets, heavy) but got some similar DNA running through it (bloody fast (0-60 4.8s, 0-100 10.0s) not bad for a 2 ton car, likes petrol and makes you grin like a maniac whenever you nail the throttle). I'll miss my Sag - the best car I've ever had but I'm finding it difficult to justify keeping it. The Jag is a bit too quiet - I think a larger bore stainless steel exhaust system may be on the cards, if anyone makes such a thing. I don't know if tweaking Jags is the thing to do, although the Jag salesman assures me it can be tweaked to 650bhp with only a chip......

Excellent choice! What a car! The XFR is a stunner, i would fear for my licence if i had one myself. It's a shame the TVR has to go, there will never be another car like it with all the new laws etc. A real piece of auto history. Can you not keep it as a weekend smile on your face car???
Good choice - I too have an XFR
There is a bit in this month's EVO about the Sagaris - a rare and special car. Worth keeping if money, space etc are not issues (but they nearly always are)
I've already been making enquiries about a sports exhaust with Spires who seem like nice folk to deal with - last time I made contact there was a slight delay while they sort out how best to incorporate the "active" value (it's a different system to the XKR apparently)
I reckon 600bhp isn't hard to achieve but I'm not sure I really need any more power - it's hard enough finding a chance to use what I already have!

I heard that the new Jag V8's can easily pump out way more bhp. It's the gearbox that is the achiles heal and it's durabilty needs beefing up before Jag go any further. The new 8 speed due end of the year in the Range Rover maybe what's needed.
I expext all that will be is to lower gears
What us is that for a GT
Infact the 1st gear in the 6 speed is to low to be of any use in an automatic
Not sure why low gears would result in low emissions. I would have thought that higher gearing would have resulted in lower emissions. Running in a higher gear usually saves fuel and "emissions" is just a way of making fuel consumption into a measurement that "normal people" can't reproduce.

Emissions == Fuel Consumption
For every 114g of petrol you put in the tank you will produce 352g of CO2 and 162g of water.
(you burn 400g of Oxygen and since that is only about 16% of the air we breath, for every 114g of petrol the car sucks in 2.5Kilos of air)
1L of petrol weighs about 720g, so for every litre of petrol you use the engine sucks in 15.8KG (~13,000,000L) of air and spits out 2.2KG of CO2.
The government don't like to use fuel consumption figures these days because motorists know how much fuel they use.
Sorry, can't be arsed to work this lot out for diesels. Again it is a easy sum, but I still can't be arsed.

Sorry to hear about your Sag, but great news on the XKR!
I'm currently in limbo as I'm after a weekender car and the Sag flick my switch, but I cant help but look at the XKR with the rear seats, well should I say shelf! The other half is swaying towards the Jag, but that Sag is just something special, will just have to play in both and see what makes me drool most!

Just picked up a new XFR on sat and its nice but after the CLS55 I can see why its a lot cheaper having said that I suppose a TVR to an XFR would be a better quality built unit ?
Jag needs an exhaust and quicky, also no sc whine which was addictive in the AMG
Early days Im sure it will thrill me soon

You are one of the few who would like the S/C whine, Jag have tried very hard to get rid of it over the past few years! The zorst is no AMG roar I agree, but again Jags are a refined brand. I think the interior is nicer than MB's style, never been a fan of the style of MB leather, wood & plastic. The XF interior is nice, but it could be much better. You should look in a new XJ, I think it would be on par with what you maybe used to? Think you should trade up to the XJ Supersport.

I like the two tv screens when you open the XJ door - smart
Ive noticed today I have no temp guage !!! also its 3 button presses to adjust seat cooler and basically you have to many presses on the screen, a few more buttons under the silver ones would help a lot I think but I will get used to it (should have got Jagvoice maybe)
Trying to get garage and gate opener sorted - no luck 1st time but Im sure it will come (rolling codes)

Re the gate opener, there are one or two black spots where mine doesn't work so if you should be unlucky and try to set it up while parked in a black spot, you might never succeed! And FWIW, mine doesn't work when the parking aid screen is showing on the display. If you need help, try Henrik at HomeLink in Germany: 0049 683 890 7277.

Sagaris gone now (my farewell post to the Sagaris forum is at http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a... ) so its just me and the XFR. I still use any excuse to drive it.
As for the interior - its fantastic, refined and modern. I did look at the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, and its cabin is incredible. As for Jag vs Merc I'd have to take your word on it but I'm surprised there is such a difference. May just be personal taste. After the Sag (options = stereo...) the Jag seems to have everything you could ever need.
