Would you say this is a fair assumption. If you buy a 2007 XK for £30k today, in 2013 i.e 3 years time that car will be worth 15k. Similar point with a XKR £35k today and 3 years time about £17k.

50% in 3 years? Fair to say? I am looking at Autotrader prices and working with current prices for current cars that are 3 years old and 6 years old. i know there is a difference in model but same principle applies if XK face lift the current XK/XKR in the future.

Yes I would say that would be a fair generalism. Ofcourse spec cones into play more as a car gets older. XKR's tend to be better kitted and therefore would be easier to sell over a similarly priced XK.

I recall buying a 3 year old XJR for 26k and selling 3 years later for 13k
Next XJR (1 year old) cost 42k and sold for 21k 3 years later
I expect current XFR (bought new) to be worth around 25-30k after 3 years

Mileage, options, condition will always mean there are exceptions to this basic rule of thumb

The steel bodied XK8/R's have held up a lot better
Though the steel XJ8/Rs have come out worse

50% rule may well be right for the first three years , but after that it should start to reduce. After six years you should be looking at nearer 10% per annum if you are lucky

Really... autotrader prices don't suggest that at all on the XK. Look at year 3 and yr 6 prices; 30k and 15 respectively.

I bought a 2001 XKR for £32k from a dealer in 2005 at 3 years old (2005). That car now retails for £15k (2010). I bought an ali 2007 XKR for £60k at 3 months old, sold 1 year later for £50k and now that car I would say is <£35k in 2010 3 years old.

Are you talking book price or actual selling privately/dealer ? Probably right for book trade in but looking at sales prices they can be much higher. I bought my XKR Conv for £18K (about book trade in) back in 05 when it was seven years old. So already up on your depreciation curve. Are you saying it should now be worth 4K at 12 years old (£65K new) ? You would be lucky to see anything not Cat C/D in good condition for much under £10K

Quite the opposite, I loved it! But we had a baby, so got something a bit more practical.

I have a son about 4 months old, i am looking to buy my XKR next year in June so he will be about a year old. You can get rear car seats for kids about 1+ in a XK?

They do make a childseat which fits an ally XKR. BUT, the rear seats are buckets, as such childseats are flat bottomed, this results in the weight being sited on only a couple of points which eventually crushes the seat pad and ruins the leather. This happened to someone I know, would cost £500+ to replace.

Mk1 XK8 XKR coupe's are fine for child seats, back seat is flat'ish.

I have my 5 month daughter in mine regularly (maxi-cosi cabriofix) justmakes the front seat a bit of a squeeze

1year+ seats are much better width and should be easier to fit

Bought a 2008MY Disco 3, changed that into a 2010MY Range Rover Sport, changed that into a 2010MY Freelander 2, now looking for a XKR again! wink

How did you find the Disco, RRS, Freelander? Why did you try all of those? Also... why you coming back to the XKR?

Loved the D3, awesome car but too big for us, we never utilised it's full capability. When the D4 was announced, I asked the wife if she would like it and she said 'no, I want I Range Rover Sport' (so did I, for ages!), along came the new Sport last September. And there it sat in the garage, with the usual trip to the supermarket and back, while we both drove the 'work' car, as the Sport 'was too nice' to put miles on and leave in some dodgey carpark. We were offered what we paid for it 8 months later, so downsized to the FL2 and realise that it fits the bill perfectly as the family wagon. A bit of spare cash and I 'need' to get back in a Jaguar. The XFR would be perfect, but it just isn't sexy enough, the new XJ is sexy enough, but just too big to take just me to work. The XKR is the only one left and seeing as it was the best car I have ever owned, it seemed the natural choice......Don't ask me what I'm looking for!

I saw a new XF with front and back camouflage yesterday. Too far away to get any detail, but looks like a facelift is on the way.

If it gets the virtual instruments from the XJ, I could be tempted.
