My S Type R is due a full set of tyres and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations other than the jaguar standards.

My last set were Pirelli Rosso but was rather dissapointed with the shelf life (perhaps down to my right foot?)

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

cheers.

Hi Warnster,

Just a comment. I have an S-Type 4.2 SE (shame there's no supercharger!). I've done over 90,000 miles and always fitted Pirelli tyres as they are original equipment. I seem to get around 22,000-24,000 miles out of them. How does this compare to the R?

I havent had a great deal of luck with tyres on the R as seem to have a geometry issue, not sure if this is usual for the R?

All four tyres at present are badly worn on the inside and on replacement will again need the geometry set up, this will be the third time in my ownership?

As for tyre wear, i replaced my rears in Aug 09 and they have about 1000 miles left in them, that would give me about 12000 miles so a huge different from your figure?

If you speak to a Jaguar garage, they will give you the new tracking/geometry figures for the R. Since having done this, i do not wear the inside edges as much as before.

As for tyres, my car came with the Pirelli P zero rosso corsa- which in my opinion are not up to the power/weight of the car at all.
Changed them for Goodyear f1, noisy, wear unevenly( problem associated with Goodyear and Dunlop tyres), better traction in the dry than the Pirelli's but not so good in the wet and 100% useless in snow although have lasted a long time, and have since changed to Michelin PS3. Much quieter, better dry and wet road grip and seem to be lasting well.
Seems you get what you pay for, although they were cheaper than the Continentals when quoted.
PS3's were about £170 for the fronts and £240 for the rears.

Thanks for the help, i couldnt agree more about the rosso corsa i thought they were useless and not cheap!

I'll check out some prices on the Michelin ps3's and give them a go.

I've owned mine for 4 years now, tired quite a few different brands now, Pirell, Continental etc the worst being Falken 452's, just didn't work at all.

I'm happy with the F1 Eagle F1 Asymmetric's I have on now.

Seem to wear really well, far better than the Conti's and with similar grip levels.

My fronts used to wear more on the inside edges too, I now run 37 psi and don't seem to have the problem anymore.

I was considering Toyo T1R's when mine need changing later this year.

Any thoughts?

Mine's running Continentals at the moment, which I find pretty "squirrely" - but AFAIK these are the original fitment on my 2005 S-T-R, Jag specials.
