over the last 18k miles i have averaged 18mpg. i am quite heavy footed but also do a lot of motorway driving.
300-350 would be a guess for a full tank on the motorway with a bit of driving in town

I don't have xjr but i do have a 2000 xkr, i have got over the last 2000 miles 20.3 mpg. this has been all sorts of driving, local short runs and long runs as well. If i drive it to work, about 2 miles I get 15.9 mpg at best

Got a '98 XJR, & I average 19/20 driving round Poole & about 23/24 on a run anywhere, unless the boot is full, in which case it drops down to 21/22.

My old '98 used to average 19.3 mpg IIRC.

Newer X350 XJR's - 23.7 on the old 2003 one, 22.0 on the '07 one (so far, it seems to be slowly creeping upward).

I have a 2002 (x308) XJR, with the 4.0, it does 19 on a run, less round town and much less when you drive it like you ought to

Edited to add, the display reckons a 250 mile range when full, have seen this rise to 325, if filling up on a motorway, but soon drops back frown

Mine will do 300 miles on the motorway on a tank with no problem and still have some left. 25mpg on a run but about 17 ish round town. 2000 W XJR

I do actually, on my desktop at home. I'll dig a couple out tonight and post them up. I sold it to a fella a few years ago now, he was intending to use it as an upgrades demonstrator and thought the colour would help make it stand out a bit.

Mine's doing 17 mpg. It would take extreme restraint to get it above 20.

I had a '98 XJR for a year.

20 was a struggle, perhaps on a long run with a gentle right foot you'd get into the 20's, but I never did (not that I tried).

Why worry about the MPG - it is an XJR!

I have just returned from southern a Brittany road trip. My 4.2 XK8 returned 28.8 (according to the on board) over the 1200 mile trip. Mostly motorway but a bit of fun on the roads where we stayed and trips whilst down there. My normal MPG for everyday stuff is around 20-22. I agree with the last post, don’t buy a V8 if you are at all concerned by fuel costs. This is my second V8. You can’t be a PH without owning a V8 at some point. IMO

Agreed, don't buy a supercharged V8 if you are in anyway uncomfortable about the potential fuel consumption, mine will pass anything, except, a filling station smile

I'm not worried about cost of petrol or amount used but my 1998 XJR only manages 15-16mpg on a daily basis. I drive 4 miles to work and 4 miles back without giving it too many beans. It's due a service but compared to what the rest of you are averaging, is there something I should be getting looked at?

Might just be the short trips you are making?

From computer, since last fill up I’ve done 110.8 miles at 34mph ave speed and got 18.4mpg.

10 mile commute each way to work in 30 and 50 mph speed limits. Car very rarely used for long trips.

You'll not do the engine much good with short journies all the time. It'll never get a chance to get up to temperature properly.
