Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, It's a n X300 1995. The rattle seems to start when going at about 40mph and it's coming from the RH, sort of between the Part that houses the Speedo etc and the windsreen, that's about where i've pinpointed it to. I,ve had the centre and RH vents out, they seem ok and i've had the top vent that house the small speaker near the screen off and again, nothing obvious. It's ruining an otherwise lovely drive and it's quite loud. If i was to describe it, it sounds like a flapping noise (remember when kids used to put playing cards in the spoke of their wheels and ride around!). Any ideas?
Oh, and it come and goes/fades.
Thanks. Pete.

Try and find out exactly where it's coming from and identify for sure what conditions cause the rattle or make it worse or better.

Certain road or engine speeds? A particular steering column position? Music up loud? Road conditions and quality? Certain interior fan speeds or vent direction settings? Turning left/right? Any loose trim? Wipers on/off? Any unusual slack or play in swiches or controls? Everything working as it should? Nothing left loose and rattling around in the engine compartment rolleyes ?

Once you've provoked it into revealing it's cause then it'll be much easier to work out how to fix it. Maybe get someone else to drive the car while you have a listen, feel and think.

I gave the engine compartment a good going over, at first i thought it was the cover for the fuse box, but ruled it out. I've messed around with all the vents and left the radio off and turned all fans off. I think i'll get the wife to drive it and i'll rummage around ans see if i can get a better idea of where it's coming from. It really does seem like it's coming from the dash area, in front of the steering wheel. It doesn't seem to be related to engine speed, it's more to do with air pressure causing something the rattle or flap and there's no real pattern. I can see this i gonna be a frustrating one!
