Greetings....

Apologies if this has been answered before, but the search function is down for 'maintenance' and I haven't got time to go through all the posts......

I need to replace the tyres on a recently purchased XJ-S.

The wheels fitted are the 15" 'Lattice Alloys', and the tyre size is 235/60/VR15 Pirelli P600's. This tyre does not seem to be available any longer, so are there any alternatives that I can run on the same wheels, that will not affect the speedo etc? 225/60/15?? etc. Or will I have to buy new alloys and tyres to suit?

I am hoping I can get something as want to keep the original look of the car......

Many thanks,

Scott

It might be on the wrong tyres already, what year/type is your car? Does it have the 'sports' or 'touring' suspension?

Early cars had 205 70 15, later (HE and 6 cylinder) cars 215 70 15; cas on sports suspension had 235 60 15 so I guess 215 70 15 would be an OK swap. IIRC cars with sports suspension had Pirelli P600's (P6000's or P6 should still be available...if not P7's are good) cars on touring suspension had P4000's, not sure what the modern equivelent is.

ETA: you can get Pirelli P7's 225 60 15 size, which isn't far out. Strange, I don't remember having this trouble finding tyres for mine a few years back, but the only tyres at the sizes I have stated are van or 4x4 tyres...perhaps a specialist like

can help?

Cheers Varsas,

It's definately on the right tyres as says so in the handbook (235/60V R15).

I have managed to find the P7's you mentioned in a 225/60 VR15, but just need to check if that size will be OK to fit, so will talk to a local tyre place tomorrow.

If not I'll go with them.

Thanks again.

You won't notice any differance between the two

Overall diameter will only be 12mm out (1/2 inch in old money)

All though that may be like the girl parking her car hitting the car in front

Her explanation was that her partner always said that was about eight inches

FWIW , I fitted a set of Yokohama AVID H4S, 215/65 R15's on my 94 4.0 coupe with 15" lattice wheels. I got them from www.tirerack.com. OK, so this is all in the US. I used the below website to compare the original tyre size and find soemthing as close as, that can handle the speed and weight rating too. I have been very happy with the tyres to date.

You can contact Pirelli technical assistance for a suitable replacement size.

Personally I would go up to the 16" Fuchs forged lattice alloys and use the Dunlop 225/55 R16 tyres.

I have 5x Pirelli 235/60/15" wheels + tires if you are interested.
User but most of the tread is still on them. Can send you photos

Google trc tyre calculator. It's a tool that allows you to compare different tyres sizes and the effect on rolling radius, speedo error and and gives a indication of changes to ride comfort if you swap tyre profiles.
