How easy is it to change the discs on a 2000 4.0 XKR? Anyone done it?

Undo the 2 bolts holding the caliper on remove it to one side and the disc will then fall off.....In theory.... sometimes the disc requires a slight tap around the outside edge to help it over the hub but should be a 15 minute job

Same as a Ford Sierra, just a bit bigger.

Two big bolts for the caliper carrier 19mm I think.

And two small allen keys for the caliper its self (7mm)

Hey Stuart

Which discs are you going for ? and dont forget to change the pads too

I am looking at EBC new USR discs, like the turbo groove but quieter in use. Heres a link
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/sport_slotted_...

I am probably going to pair them up with some EBC Redstuff pads.
Total cost for front discs & pads £300

what do you reckon

Funny that, its exactly what I have been looking at. They even do the kit on Ebay. Have you seen them?

Are the standards not up to the job then?

To be blunt, NO - the standards are rubbish and for a car that does 155 so easily, its frightening when you really need the brakes & they feel like they came off a fiesta.

Stuart - Yes ive seen some on ebay and am 'watching' a few sets at £220

I bought Turbo Grooved ones for my old TVR and they cost about £50. Damn Jaguar name attached to them and the price has quadrupled. Having used turbo grooved, they are a bit noisy under hard braking so i think the new Ultimax USR ones should be ideal for the Jag

Great stuff and thanks for the help. I will go for the same. Its true what you say too, the standard discs are ok for a saloon carf, not for one of these things!

I'll find out this week-end, as I think my standard brakes will be getting a work out on a sprint course on Saturday, and a runway drag strip on Sunday.

Busy weekend. biggrin

I have these discs on my XJR and XJ8, a big improvement over O/E and a step forward from the EBC grooved and dimpled items I had fitted previously. Smoother and quieter.
A word to the wise though about pads, go straight to yellowstuff or similar if you are serious about maximising braking effort and fade resistance. I found Redstuff, while better than O/E, was not really a serious improvement.

Was that the current 'new' formula redstuff as they changed the pads a while ago and are apparently better than they were.

Or should i just buy yellowstuff and be done with it ?
I heard yellow were worse when cold than red

I dont track & just want to slow down more confidently from say 130 to 80 (private land of course)

They were the latest Yellowstuff. They do take slightly longer to warm up to full efficiency, but that said they are nowhere near scary when fully cold or /and wet, and they come on song quickly.
I simply make sure I never have to use them quickly when driving off from cold and warm them over the first couple of miles as the car warms up too.
The other plusses are they do not seem to be trading stopping power for increased wear and the dust levels are very, very low.
I have Pagid track spec pads on the Z3 and while they are excellent and equal to the Yellowstuff in terms of feel and fade resistance the state of the wheels after a day out being enthusiastic is quite depressing! Black dust everywhere and plenty of it.

I have done some more research on the USR discs. I reckon i might go for the turbo grooved sport versions instead.

They call the USR silent ones "ultimax" and thats their OEM replacement brand, so i'm not sure they are as good as the Turbo groove. Ive used turbo groove before so am relatively happy to use again.
Red or Yellow pads, i havnt decided yet. Yellow give off alot of dust
