X-type 3.0 Temp Gauge

I've just used the car for the first time in cool weather (300+ miles round trip from 5am today) and noticed the temp gauge is steadily just left of centre. During the previous warmer months it has been just right of centre.

Having owned E34 BMWs I'm used to a dead centre reading all the time. Is mine behaving? The handbook says it may vary but have not experienced this on any other car.

Fuel consumption was also 33 average as opposed to 37 on the previous trip driving in the same manner. First tank was Shell super dooper, second was Morrisons.

Thermostat stuck a tad?

Any thoughts appreciated.
