X300 headlight problem - Relays?

Riddle me this..
The O/S (outer light, X300) main beam headlight has failed. Firstly the bulb blew (and I got the 'bulb out' light on the dash), I replaced the bulb and it stopped working after a few minutes (not blown, just not working, I replaced it with another to check).. but the 'bulb out' light did not re-appear (so presumably the car thinks the light is still on?).
The O/S side-light (and indeed all the other lights, inc full beam) work.
I've replaced the bulb holder and checked that there is no obvious break in the wires, they all seem fine.
So.. are the two main lights (N/S & O/S) on the same relay or do they each have a seperate one (which might explain the problem) and is that what I should replace next? Any pointers appreciated.
