The car heater warms the interior fine, unless the temp is 3 deg C. If it's below that, or above that, there's not a problem.

At 3 deg C, the car starts to heat, then only cold air comes into the cabin.

My thought is a faulty thermostat. Below the temp, the stat is staying closed, but above the temp it's opening wide. Obviously above 3, the heat generated by the engine is enough to keep the water warm, but it seems that at 3 deg the radiator is doing it's job too well.

Anyone agree, or care to offer an alternative idea?

I had a similar problem with engine running too cool when travelling along. Temp guage would drop to about 1/4 (normal reading 1/2). New thermostat cured it. Old one was stuck in open position.
Faster warm-up and full heater performance restored.

Ta. I was fairly sure, but thought I might just be willing it to be that, being a part of the car that's easy to get at and work on. hehe
