Amazing looking cars smile

Always seems to be one or two for sale in Japan: http://shop.dream-auto.jp/i-shop/product.pasp?cm_i...

This one has been advertised for quite a while, circa GBP 240,000 at current exchange rates.

It looks like they have modified the engine. I had heard that a large number of XJR-15s had gone to Japan in the 90s.

I have only had the XJR-15 for a fairly short period of time and the 1st couple of months were spent getting it recommisioned for road use (nothing major but still a lot of things to check). Most opinions on XJR-15s are formed out of two video clips, Tiff Nedell driving the race prototype on a wet track at Silverstone, and Clarkson hamfisting it for one of his bank balance inflating DVDs. Having now put a few miles on mine, the handling is not as demonic as legend would have it. You just need to appreciate it for what it is. While it is road legal, it is not really a road car. It is a very thinly disguised early 90's LeMans race car. The steering is very precise, sensitive, and geared for a race track. The clutch is very exact and anything under 2000 rpms makes the drive train quite unhappy. Sound deading is zero and the CF tub translates all noise directly into the drivers skull. Put your right foot down and the XJR-15 takes off like a scalded cat. The 6 liter V12 is a very impressive power plant even by todays standards. This is a car that redefines raw and must be driven smoothly and with respect. Do that and it is really thrilling to take out on the road......always highly involving and an experience.

Seems like it - I've only seen one here in Tokyo (and then in a car showroom) but a quick search finds a further four examples for sale:

Circa GBP 200,000 and only 292 miles from new: http://www.ag-motoyama.com/others/xjr15_080501_3/

"Only" GBP 150,000 for this one: http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/detail/CU00038112...

Circa GBP 250,000: http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/detail/CU00047781...

And approx. GBP 190,000 with only 600 miles from new: http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/detail/CU00052147...

Neither of those is likely to be a good way to test a car like this then.

sad how easy it is to damage a cars reputation

Cheers for the links Andy, I had some of them saved in the database I'm keeping for these cars. There were a couple up for sale on Yahoo Japan a while back as well so there are plenty over there.

Also there are several LM versions over there as well. of which this one of your links...

http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/detail/CU00038112...

seems to hint at, though for some reason this one only has partial LM body modifications (the front bumper for one).

How good is your Japanese by the way? I may require a favour relating to your links :P
