Hi all,

As a proud owner of an XKR, which was collected just days before the trouble started in the Middle East, I am now being ribbed something rotten about the price of petrol.

I have read many posts about how many MPG people have managed in their Jags, but that just makes you sound cheap. Instead what is the worst you have seen?

I had a spirited run round with a mate yesterday, and managed 10.4 MPG over 5 miles.

Any better?

Playing around on a trackday at Goodwood my XK150 does about a £1/lap on fuel.
I don't intend to convert that number to MPG.

The chairman of my practice is something of a petrolhead and, when I first joined, used to have a 6.0 XJRS that he used as his everyday car commuting from South london to the office in town & back every day. Not long after I started we were chatting about MPG; he reckoned that he got 6 around town & could get it up to 10 'on a run'

In a week of particularly agressive driving I managed 10 mpg in my XJ8.

I don’t like to look, tend to have it on “range till empty”. I also get ribbed about the Fuel and MPG (or lack of) by two guys in the office who both have got new 320d. I just ask them about the deprecation on a their rattle boxes. One guy said “oh that dose not count” the other “ah but I get 50+mpg” keep living the dream boys. wink

PS: the last time I looked the XJ8 was on 13.2mpg average over about 8 months.

I am also a bit afraid to look at times. The XJR can sook the petrol with the best of them. When they (the unwashed)go on about the fuel costs blah blah I tell them love knows no costs. They don't understand the feelings I have driving a supercharged V8 with a big smile on my face outways the cost. When they are all banned I'll be sitting telling stories of the days I had a V8.

Likewise I do the same in my XKR, hoping from petrol station to petrol station

Just went out to the car to read the average, came up as 12.2 MPG

The good thing about the car is it doesn't cost me anything for HandBags or Shoes as the other love of my life

Although is you read Shoes as Tyres then it does!!!

When I was commuting 4.1 miles through the centre of Reading a couple of years ago my old 2003 XJR was averaging 9.3 mpg, as the journey was taking 45 minutes so mainly sat in jams. Good job it was only 4.1 miles each way smile

More normal for that XJR and the newer one is 22-23.7 mpg mainly bombing up and down the M4.

At (coff) 70mph that's 3 gallons an hour or about 30p/minute...

On some occasions driving around town, stop start traffic and plenty of hills I'll get as little as 11mpg in my XJ8. Not that I really care. I think it's a shame when people now talk about MPG rather than BHP.

I don't think V8's will be banned outright, they may become taxed to the hilt though leaving just a favoured few to own them.

I don't think the number or configuration of the engine is important, just the carbons. And of course the more fuel it uses the more tax you pay anyway so they can't afford to ban them... just like fags.

We shall simply run out of money faster and become dependent on the State sooner.

Please, Please come. Do not do these calculations. We can all use a calculator, but we do not need to be show in black and white what we are cars are drinking per min. I did this calculation for the boat once, never again will I work it out... so dam depressing.

I am going to go on to the VAG section now and have a look to see if there is a thread about who has the best MPG wink

Cool, is that all? smile

Worth every bloody penny of it smile

Can you do the calc for 110mph? The M4 was clear the other night on a trip to Bracknell and I *wonder* what the figures would be for an average of 110mph? smile

I get 28 out of my XKR and that's mostly rural/town driving. Mr 13th gets 21-20 driving "normally" but on motorways far higher.

p.s. I know I shouldn't let her run dry but I hate filling up with fuel! As such I know that my XKR will run for days when showing 0 miles left and that's doing daily trips of at least 10 miles.......... so a minimum of 40 miles left when empty. Haven't taken it any further as by that point Mr 13th takes it for a quick nip down the road and fills it up for me biggrin

(Oh and the S type estate has yet to conk out on me either and I often run that on 0 too redface )

Ha, don't worry. Once as a student I bought petrol with cash and it was so scary I've used a credit card ever since.

Top marks they do go well and are more fun in "Dynamic" mode wink

Yep managed to get to around that number when Jag let me test drive it for a weekend.

on my return the sales guy said "did you manage to give it a good run?" wink
