Hi all,
I would like some feedback on a project I’m planning to take on, which is:
I was considering buying an Audi A4 TDI 2006 which has a oil pump problem and is a none runner. If the engine is dead can I just change it for a different model 2.0lt diesel without the oil pump problems, or do all 2lt diesels have this problem. If this is a bad idea is it worth repairing the original engine oil pump and are they ok after they have been repaired. Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks

One at work lasted to 252k before it went. But I would put that down to being a common problem (i thought it was lack of service by my company)

They are prone to the oil pump problem. It is fixable and preventable but obviously your engine is likely to be scrap having run with no oil pressure.

Depends how it "went". A mate of mine had a 2.0TDi and despite experiencing a catastrophic oil-pump failure, the engine was fine once the oil pump was replaced. So basically, if it's been run with no oil pressure, it's probably dead and not worth spending money on (even a straight swap engine transplant is a big challenge and probably pretty expensive unless you've got the time/money/space to do it yourself.) If not, it might be worth a punt.

AFAIK they all are susceptable to the issue but there is a fix to prevent it happening as a quick Google will show.

I looked at getting one but as the fix isn't cheap and easy it was easier to just avoid it.

It was a while ago but IIRC you can fit the later geared pump.

Google 2.0 tdi oil pump fix and it should come up.
