Recently picked up a 2010 Leon FR.

Surprised and annoyed to find trying to connect a 4th Gen ipod nano through the in car USB slot with the original white ipod cable does not work.

Any solutions? Is it the case I'm going to get raped by Seat ordering another cable? No 3rd party suppliers known?
I can live with the AUX jack in the short term but that is not the same functionality.

What devices is it listed as supporting? An ipod doesn't work like a USB mass storage device in the way that a lot of cheap MP3 players do.

Is it MDI? Does the USB outlet look like this?

If so then there's something about them that means they don't work properly with iPods - you need the iPod-specific cable. Just stick "mdi ipod" into ebay and you'll find loads from a tenner or so, else over the counter at your nearest VAG dealer they're £22-ish.

Don't have the handbook to hand at the moment. I would've thought that by 2010 the range of ipods were already established as the most popular portable music device and hence Seat would've put some effort into including proper integration. I'd assumed that was the case.

Missed sjd's reply. It's a USB slot integrated directed into the centre console under the head unit, no visible cable but I suspect you are right.

Will have to review the manuals again as well.

Its not MDI, you should have a USB + AUX input towards the bottom of the centre console. You need the cable that links these to an iPod, looks like this:

The original iPod cable won't work, you will need the above

Same as the BMW one. SEAT can sell it to you or look on eBay smile

Ah. Your description of the car interfaces is correct. Is this cable giving proper ipod integration as in controlling the ipod through the head unit or steering wheel controls?

As far as I know yes it should give you full control through the car and display track information on the head unit display, assuming you still have the factory fitted unit. It essentially gives the same functionality as the MDI system. Alternatively if you wish to control through the iPod just connect a regular AUX cable instead.

Just to report back I ordered a cable like the one va1o showed on Friday through Amazon which arrived today and worked perfectly. Proper control of th ipod through the head unit or steering wheel and track info on both displays.
I did have a cheap aux cable to keep me going but working the ipod that way is a pain in the arse to me.
