Hi Guys,

Just curious what everyone is getting from a full tank, Town MPG and Motorway. Looking for averages not or even your best sitting at 50mph over a full tank. I know lots of people ask this question so would be good to have one thread for MPGs.

Cheers

Best is 5.8 litres/100km (48.7 mpg)on a 10 hour run with the car fully loaded and a few stops along the way,between Sydney and Melbourne, cruise control on for most of it (100-110km/hr = 65 to 70mph). Also got this figure on a 2 hour run from Western Victoria to Melbourne recently. Remapped by Viezu in Bromsgrove. Never got better than 40mpg on a quiet 70-80mph motorway run in the UK before the remap. Once these (heavyish) cars are moving, they really are fuel misers. It's the stop-start that kills economy.

hi dennis, I totally agree start stop is murder for these cars. i recently done a 450 mile trip across the UK. This jounrey should have taken me 7 hours tops but too me 16 hours in total. I literally went through 4 seasons in one day, snow, ice, fog etc, I was stuck in traffic half the time, slow crawl etc.
I average 33mpg over this time which i wasnt over the moon about but considering the car was on for over 15 hours and in sub zero temps etc i found it quite acceptable.

When I was doing long runs a couple of yaars ago, was approaching 40 mpg on the motorway bits and I wasn't being too careful with speed. However, as soon as you are back into the urban jungles it drops quite a bit.

Car has done over 100K now and I still get 34-35 mpg per tank.

A6 here, but I get roughly 35 to the gallon, 40 on a run. And *insert expletive here* around town and stop start driving.

Thanks silverbullet. I mpg is 33 combined. Longest journey in genral is only 18-20 miles which im sure only just gets the 3.0 engines primed for mpg lol. Do mostly short journeys of 4-8 miles

I'm working away at the moment, 140 mile journey. I get 41.4mpg on this run

Speed is set at 75ish for this.

Audi told me for the BMK engine 32-34 is what you should expect.

I find I get slightly more mpg using shell diesel rather than supermarket juice.

At UK motorway speeds I don't think I've bettered 38 in a standard car with averages over a longer period in the very low 30s.

If you behave and stick to 70 the instant economy readout tends to hover around the 45-48 mark.

For reference to those buying a D3 A8 3.0 TDI second hand - i used this thread for some guidance on the motorway mpg when researching the suitability of an A8. Beware i suspect many of the estimates above aren’t actually from the true pump fill and in fact mislead by the display computer. Understandably many cars do a few mpg less than the trip computer - but mine was much worse;

Mine although displaying approx 42 mpg on the computer from a gentle motorway cruise between 70 and 80, in fact was doing a true mpg (calculated from filling the tank) of 29. Mine went back to the dealer with other issues anyway...but just beware...
