What kind of mileage are people getting out of their tyres?

I have gone through a set of fronts in 11,000 miles which is pretty poor. The main wore around the inners, have had the tracking checked and it is fine, again is this normal?

Try running them with a bit more air in than specified. My experience with Golfs is that they tend to wear the insides more

11,000 for fronts sounds OK, depending on your driving type and style, what make are the tyres?

However, its not common for the fronts to wear inside (the back can do this!) was the car properly laser checked?

The car is running on Nexens and it has the 18" wheels and I try and run them on the specified pressures, 34psi I think. Both sides have worn in exactly the same way so they are even in that respect.

The car wasn't laser checked which will be my next port of call. I would honestly expect to get at around 20,000 miles out of a set of tyres, and have never failed to achieve this with any of my cars.

Hmmm, well all I can do is wish you luck with the 20,000 figure, I have 200,000+ miles with Golf's none of them came close to 20,000 for a set of fronts.

However, I can recommend a Hunter alignment (find somewhere with a machine like this http://uniquetyre.net/detail.php?cmd=smarty&id...

Lastly, worn shocks have also been the reason for un-even wear.

Try a couple extra PSI..

Think I usually put (17" alloys) 37PSI in mine.

Ride is awful, but seems to help wear a bit.

Mine has 18's and was chewing the insides on the front and the outsides on the rear. VW tech advised running them with a bit more air so I run them 2.5 bar all round and it seems to have done the trick

Good luck with getting 20K out of your fronts though!

Well one can be ever hopeful of a reasonable mileage, I don't think 20,000 is that unreasonable but it doesn't sound like the golf is going to do that for me.

I will try upping the pressure.

Just for your info; I;ve just changed the front on my GTI (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 to the same) from new to 2mm they lasted 16,000 miles (and I think I'm an easy driver).

Well I just took the MOT mans report at face value that the tyres were unevenly worn and having guven them a closer inspection, I don't think they are that uneven, certainly not enough for me to consider odd, I have seen a lot worse.

Just need to get more miles out of them, I think they will just scrape 13,000 when they get replaced, still not greate but can live with it, not that I have any choice.

If you want good mileage, pick something with a high score for wear here:

11k miles form a 200bhp front wheel drive car is about right I would say. My wife's Leon FR 170 TDI wore out in 12000 miles as a guide.
Wider tyres will always wear on the inside more than the outside from my experience.
