I am in the process of buying a Audi A6 Avant 3.0 Quattro le mans 122000 57 plate - done the deal pd deposit with trade in at garage not Audi dealers, but at the time car perfect except mmi wasn't working - they said it would be an easy fix and deliver in a couple of days. Received a call to day cant deliver as the amp needs replacing in boot (at the time I commented that it was a common fault the pipe to the rear washer splits and the water damages the amp) they have informed me that there isn't any water in or around the amp but they will order a recon one in - I can still have it delivered as it is and they will have it sent to me or wait and they will have it fitted then deliver it ( a no brainer as far as thats concerned ) they have taken a amp out of a q7 they have in stock to try out but the sound only comes out of the right hand side so they could not use that as a quick fix. (which sounds fair) Does this ring bell for any one or can any one advise me.

Regards:

Dr G

You cannot simply fit these amplifiers and expect them to work; they need coding. A Q7 unit may well be compatible but regardless would need coding before functioning properly.

I have just suffered the dreaded "split hose destroy bose amp" situation. Is it possible to get any amp with a close part code and then get it coded? My failed unit has a part code of 4F0 035 223 G

Also, is it possible to install an aftermarket amp?

I would rather not pay Audi to replace something that expensive for what I consider to be a pretty big design flaw, so if I don't have to, it would ease the pain.

Thanks

Close may not be good enough but if the part is either superseded from or supersedes to your failed unit then yes, it is possible to code it to the car.

Thanks Dr G - is there any way to work out which would be compatible?

Part number will be something like A1A B2B 3C3 *

Where the * is within a letter or two of your original it is likely compatible but the ONLY way to know for sure is to bang it into ETOS and check that they supersede directly.

Thanks Shtu - annoyingly that wasn't there when i searched a couple of days ago...

Can Audi Specialists do the "coding", or is it Audi only? My independent claim to be able to do, but my understanding was that it had to go to Audi servers or something.

Does the amp stop all the functions on the mmi or just the radio and cd player

Hi Duncan - It stops everything as all things route through the amp - so if it fails you get nothing. Currently, whilst I have parking sensor "beeps" I have no satnav, radio, cd's, reversing camera or bluetooth hands free.

Cheers - sorry for hijacking your thread. Seems the the coding could be an easy thing to get sorted - having one side of the speakers seems to suggest the amp works but just needs syncing to the car.

Enjoy the car - they are awesome (except for annoying water based design flaws)

No worries - got to understand the pit fall of the car and what to look out. just hope it doesn't happen to my q7 as that cost a fortune on the keyless entry. Where did your pipe break and is it an easy long lasting fix

When I had my A6 new in 2007 it frequently had problems with the bluetooth module, symptoms exactly as you describe
