After spending the last few months tuning the car (STaSIS Tuning etc) my clutch as died (hopefully not the flywheel/box too).

I won’t put it down to the tuning as its been great and never missed a beat, its more how I drive the car and its just done 4000miles across Europe and the car has just turned 22k miles.

I am too tight to use Audi and since me and my 2 mates know our way around and engine so we thought stuff it and let’s do it, it was a case of once we started it was too late to turn back.

Words don’t describe how much st you have to strip/move to get the box out, and there was a few @rse clenching moments so far, refit is looking fun but enjoy every moment.

The shed:

Progress so far.

Fair play to you sir, looks a daunting task but cars are cars and clutches are clutches.

I am not stranger to DIY or working or cars etc but holly canolly I am bricking it just looking at those pics.

I get the impression you are working on it as if someone else would work on a corsa...

in a good way!

Not sure i would want my car serviced in that there garage unless they were doing it for nothing, shocking state to be in on a supposedly super car. I hope you let the next owner know whenever you sell it on. Each to their own though, good luck with getting it all back together again.

It's only nuts and bolts at the end of the day though isn't it? Good effort from the OP, nice to see people getting stuck in rather paying the high labour costs that Audi would charge.

This isn't a garage/business, this is my mates shed and we are doing the work ourselfs.

It who is doing the work that counts and not how shiny your garage/tools are.

I'm about as much as a petrolhead as you get and I'd rather do all my work myself where I know it will be right and no corners cut.

Pretty sure most on here agree the just because you visit a main dealer it don'tean you get a better end result.

The car is tuned and out of warranty so it's a joy to be able to do the work myself wink

Knowing how service staff in main dealers are always trying to beat the clock to earn a bonus for getting more jobs done in a day, I couldn't agree more on the benefits of a bit of DIY if you can/want to/have somewhere reasonably suitable to do it smile

I'd be bricking it too in case things go wrong, but once you're in there it's all relatively straightforward. You know it all goes back together without the clutch plate covered in oily fingerprints too!

biggrin . I know there's a lot of satisfaction in doing something like this yourself, but if you added up the hours you and your pals put into it and costed them at what you normally earn how much will you be in pocket at the end compared to paying a good Indy ?.

I have been in numerous main dealer workshops, and many of them still shock me with fluids, and tools, and car bits all over the place. If you do it yourself, you at least know whats been done, not just what you have been charged for.

Agree, you definitely know what's been done and that you've done it well.

But how do you prove that to the next prospective buyer? To them, you've taken a nearly new V10 R8 to your mates garage to get the clutch changed by someone who has probably never done one before on this car.

I'm sure the OP weighed this all up, and top marks for doing it all, I'd love to be able to do it, and must be very satisfying, but I'd be wary of buying a car like that which hadn't had work done by a dealer or specialist.

I guess it might be an issue if the clutch were slipping again by the time it is sold, assuming it will be at some point, but I wouldn't be worried personally if the receipts for parts are all there. After 2 years there's no warranty on parts fitted to a standard spec car, so the lack of a garage bill for fitting it after that point makes it an irrelevance and that's without getting into the fact this one's pumping out more horses.

Do they make uprated parts for these? I know a gent with a Heffner twin turbo V10 but no idea what's been done to that - think it's r-tronic though.

Good on you!

I rebuild motorbikes, I've no formal mechanical qualifications but have a nice space to work in..

Like above, how do you convince a prospective purchaser as to the level of work.. well, I suppose on a motorbike everything is just more visible but I offer any inspection welcome.. by anyone..

Car is now back on the road and actually selecting gear and driving better than it ever has in my ownership.

The job took 3 of us 20 hours in total and at a cost of £1022, Audi main dealer wanted £8757.

I've learned alot about the car and although It seems a big job it actually wasn't that bad.

It's ready to be tested on track this wekeend wink
