2004 Passat Estate - Rusty arches & VW argument
Discussion
So my rusty arch saga continues, and VW are only willing to pay half as goodwill. Claim that the rust is hpthats result of a Mechanical issue with a wheel arch lining fault.
Consequently we have reached stalemate. I refuse 50% stating they should pay the lot as it is under warranty, they refuse to go above 50%, but have been very helpful in providing me with details on ow to escalate.
Am I wasting my time continuing to pursue, or with 10 year anti corrosion warranty is it irrelevant if there was a design fault ith the wheel arch liner causing this?
The car has done 150k and 9 years old, but otherwise mint, so would be great to get it fixed if they offer full whack.

I can see your point regarding a 10 year corrosion warranty but after 150,000 miles and 9 years I`d be happy with them offering to pay 50%. How much is the repair and realistically, how much is the car worth?Deerfoot said:

Cars worth 2.5k and otherwise in great nick. They haven't actually confirmed the price yet.Just had both wings replaced by VW under their corossion warranty. I was told by the bodyshop that it would have cost nearly £1200 with the VAT.
I'm amazed they did this on an 8yr old car that was not purchased through the franchise nor has it a VAG service history.
Can't be that bad a warranty then?

Who introduced the wheel arch lining fault - was it due to subsequent repair work, or is it all original?
Completely original, VW acknowledge it as a fault their side hence the 50% contribution. Conceivably they could offer you a cash settlement on the basis the repairs will cost more than the car is worth, but to insist that you contribute to their warranty repairs is pretty poor.

You're lucky. I have a 3 1/2 year old CC, the wheels of which are corroding, from beneath the coating, on the inside of the rim.Consequently we have reached stalemate. VW not interested, it's out of warranty.
Oh well, a couple of hundred quid to have them refurbed when I sell, but no more VWs in our family.........

Back in 1994, the wheels of my Corrado VR6 started to corrode under the lacquer, it was quite obvious that it wasn`t due to kerbing from the position of the corrosion. After a short discussion they replaced them although the car was just out of warranty.VW not interested, it's out of warranty.

The wheels fitted to the 25th Anniversary Golf GTI were dreadful for this issue as well.
The wheels on my Polo GT are bubbling as well.
