My car thinks the ignition is off when the car is turned on
Discussion
The stereo refuses to come on and when i take my keys out the ignition the interior light used to come on, now it doesn't.
I had to connect the power wire and the memory together to jumpstart the stereo basically. The stereo is now constantly on even when i take the key out the ignition. I have to take the faceplate off for it to turn off. Any reason as to why my car is doing this? It's a 9n polo if that makes any difference.

I had a car that used to do similar.
When you remove the key is the inner barrel suppose to pop out as you slide the key out?
Not that i know of buddy. It's a bit late to check now, but i just normally slotted the key in and turn. Nothing popped out or popped in. From what i can remember. When you remove the key is the inner barrel suppose to pop out as you slide the key out?
If its an aftermarket stereo and if it was put in before you got the car, it is possible that its a simple case of swapping over the wires in the back. I had an 9n which I swapped out the stereo, there is a permanent live (for the clock) and a switchable one (which works with the ignition) . I'd say thats your issue, get the stereo out look at the wiring I bet you thats the case. When the stereo was new it would've had instructions as to which is which. If you don't have this I'm sure google will be your friend : ). good luck!

Hey buddy thanks for the response. I had the stereo for over a year and it never came with the manufacture stereo when i purchased the car unfortunately. The interior light doesnt come on when i pull the keys out the ignition, i have to either open the door or press the button on the light for it to work.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
