Octavia scout 1.8TSI opinions?
Discussion
The 1.8 tsi has a fault where the chain tensioner can fail that potentially destroys the engine skoda are putting money toward replacements that's the bad.
Usual driving I get between 35-40mpg if I'm flogging it, it rarely goes below 30mpg.
The 1.8 is not the same as the 1.8 20v that is easily tuned. The tsi will go to about 220hp with a remap further to that you are looking at a turbo swap that will take you upto 300bhp.
You may be best going to briskoda as you will get better answers.
Scout wise the only issue is the alloy wheels de laminating because of the finish even if repaired they are still very fragile other than that there pretty solid cars.

I've got a 1.8TSI - although in a none scout form.
I tend to get mid to high 30's MPG with a mix of around town and motorway driving. Have had it up into the 50's on runs to Bristol and back from Manchester. It has a nice turn of speed, but not at the expense of fuel economy.
The chain tentioners were altered, so might be worth looking for one that has a newer design of engine, or one where the modified tentioners have been retrofitted.
There is also a piston ring issue on the earlier 1.8TSI, which leads to stupid oil consumption - I'm talking 4 litres in 400 miles. Again, most of these would have been sorted by now, either by replacing the piston rings, a replacement engine, or having been taken off the road as beyond economical repair - Skoda were (don't know if they still are) willing to offer some contribution towards this, but only if you go for the engine option, and if you have a full service history - Mine was nearly £3k even with Skoda's contribution, and that was about 6 years ago, on a 4 year old car.
