A chip will easily up the power. Plenty of them around.

My Chip gives me about 40bhp more. That is by far enough to make the car a handfull, and to give the ESP a workout on a slippery road.

Dont bother doing much else to it, with a chip, it will easily embarris most unsuspecting baiters. slam it into 2nd from the lights, and wait until the boost kicks in

had mine chipped to 182BHP, scary.

it's got a LOT of power. a LOT. really. really a lot!!

BUT, as a thread I've just opened, i've got a prob that feels like the clutch slipping in 3rd and 4th gear.

This may be a combination of the ECU and slippery roads, but can't pin it down.

Norwich Union are good for insurance with chipped cars. They appear to understand them, instead of reeling in horror like CIS did!! Loaded my insurance by about 80 pounds.

Fuel consumption is about the same. Accelerating in 3rd is the best bit, it almosts breaks the back of the seat - along with your neck!

Sort the suspension, as VW inadvertantly used marshmellows for dampers & curlywirly chocolate bars for springs with the Mk4 (&Mk3)nice & tasty but make for handling like a waterbed.

A chipped 130 with sorted supension is a blooming swift cross country weapon, more than capapble of taking scalps off far more exotic wagons.

swillington auto care.

A chap called Steve Tate. Does other mad things with nitrous bottles and motorbikes (SSSSSSSSSSScary!!!!) Find him on the net.

Box costs about £400, and is fitted in about 10-15 minutes. Not invasive at all, and easy to remove.

Takes a PD 150 up to a quoted 182bhp. Steve claims it's more like 190+BHP.

Suddenly you've got a golf that will accelerate up to 120MPH UPHILL for gods sake. Everyone who's driven my car since have been godsmacked by how much power it has. Remember it's not just the BHP it's the torque that really shows. You'll have a smile on your face I can guarantee you!

This is true. I find it hard to drive my TDI without gettign wheelspin when the turbo kicks in. Even at low speeds, the roads are evil .. the ESP kicks into ovetime and struggles to get the power down.

i have that problem with a 110bhp skoda!!

is there a solution in a fwd car or is wheelspin a fact of life?

when it's moist and I want to make a rapid start, it is a fine line between excessive wheelspin and stalling. annoying i call it.

to put my TDI into perspetive ... My Dad (who has driven a fair few cars in his time, and certainly knows how to drive ) in the Golf, me in my TVR 400SE. What the Golf lost out on was straight line acceleration, but certainly made up across roundabouts and into sharp corners. I was fighting to keep my TVR on the road, as dad left me for dead. I know the Mk4's get a bad press for being Lardy and slow, but people dont realise the mid range abilities of the VAG PD Diesels. IMHO the MK4 should have been given 4 motion with the more powerful PD engines.
