Hi,
I usually post on the TVR Griffith forum but my other car is now an Audi Q5.
The Q5 is a 2011 model with the MMI system and DAB. I have connected my phone via bluetooth for calls without any problem.
The problem is how do I play music from my phone via bluetooth? I have tried all ways and cannot get it to recognise that the phone plays music. The phone is a Samsung S5 btw.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve.

In my Golf you have to be playing music on the phone before the system will allow you to select 'Bluetooth Audio' as a media source, have you tried this? I'd be surprised if it didn't support it.

I'm in the same boat and it doesn't support audio despite having the Bluetooth phone kit.

Been looking at one of these as an alternative...

Seems unbelievable that a car this spec which has bluetooth does not allow music connection.
I called Edinburgh Audi (closest dealer) and then Glasgow Audi to ask how to play music via my phone. Each time I was told no-one was available to answer the question and someone will call me back. Nobody has called back.
One lady who I spoke to at an Audi dealership actually suggested I call Audi Roadside Assistance, I declined.

Bluetooth streaming wasnt supported until 2012 on. You could have the AMI retrofitted for around £400 if you want, rather than an aftermarket device. You may already have AMI but just don't know it. It's in the glovebox and looks like a multi pin plug. If youre unsure, ping me across the reg number and im happy to do a spec check in the morning.

I will ask in here instead of starting a new thread , I have just bought a 55 reg A6 it has bluetooth and DAB from my limited knowledge it is the MMI 2G as per the age of the car what would I need to do to stream music ?

To OP and poster above - the MMI does not support audio streaming. In theory it should but in practice it does not, no matter what you do. AMI is an option, but it's a pain to plug into the glovebox every time you get in the car unless it's a long journey.

The type of device that gets around it is this bluetooth dongle to connect to the ipod interface AMI cable:

Heres how ive done it - http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11...

Couple of things to note.

You will need the external AV sources available via your MMI for this to work.
The cable i used has a 5v output and charges an Iphone 4 onwards i think
If you have an Iphone 3 or earlier you will need a 12v output as per this lead - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380319585039?_trksid=p20...

Should still work fine as your Sony will still connect to the bluetooth receiver in my link; you just wouldnt be able to connect directly to charge your phone.

Don't forget that Bluetooth for handsfree phone (low bandwidth, mono, poor quality) is different from Bluetooth for streaming audio (stereo, higher quality, with transport controls too). Not defending the length of time it takes for these technologies to make it into cars, but one doesn't automatically imply the other.

Kufatec do a widget (FISCON) for MMI 2G that is pin compatible with the Audi bluetooth phone prep, so provides phone integration, but also jumps on the optical audio (MOST) bus and pretends to be an additional CD autochanger, where disc 12 is in fact streaming audio from your phone/whatever.

It took me a while to realise what I had plumbed into my S6, and a while longer to find the magic phone number to "call" to turn on the streaming bit of it.

Hi All,
Just for info I went down the route of buying one of these. It works perfectly. It connects automatically when you get in the car and begins playing the music from when you left off.

Thanks.

Hey I have just come across this conversation. Do you guys know if the tune2air works well with a Samsung phone?
I have just bought a 63 plate audi a5 black edition and discovered I can't even play my music from my phone. So disappointed in audi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It works with any Bluetooth phone that's reasonably capable. The Apple connector on it has nothing to do with the functionality - it's just the default cable Audi tended to supply with new cars at the time, along with USB which has usually been chucked in the bin!

I just use the SD card slots on ours - a pair of 32gb cards give us more than enough capacity

Do these Bluetooth thingies work on the 2g MMI as found in an '08 S5? I've read that the this version of MMI doesn't provide any power through the connector and therefore they need an external power source, normally in the form of additional USB lead.

But on the linked one's above, I cannot see any additional power input.

Any ideas?

I use to have a 2008 S5 and the previous owner had retrofitted the Kufatec Fiscon. This integrated into the 2G MMI providing Bluetooth or calls and A2DP streaming.

Alternatively you could purchase an AMI to AUX cable then connect to a 12v powered Bluetooth adaptor, but that wouldn't be as neatly fitting or allow control through the MMI.

Thanks for the tip.

It already has Bluetooth calling so only the streaming needed. The Kufatec one comes in steep at £300! I'll contact the manufacturer directly on the tune 2 air to see if it's compatible on AMI without power (2g). My hunch is that it won't and I'll need to find a way to provide power such as threading a thin cable through from the lighter socket.
