Hi all,

Had the car for nearly a year, 2009 mk6 golf GT TDI, and randomly when i started it up this evening, the MFI showed warning messages, along with the dash light, for EVERY exterior light on the car. I have confirmed that they are all working, however the hazards/indicators when turned on seem to be "stuck" for about 10 seconds, ie. all the bulbs turn on but dont flash, then they start flashing. The mirror indicators however, flash straight away.

Not had the issue before, and turning the car off and taking the key out before trying again doesnt change anything.

Any thoughts?

Mine intermittently displays the bulb failure warning for no apparent reason, but it only reports the number plate light as causing the issue. I suspect its sensor related.

Interestingly i restarted the car half an hour later last night to have a re-check of all the bulbs - no warning lights or messages or anything. Same today, no issue. Will keep an eye on it but very bizarre

Anyone got an update on this issue ?. My Golf Mk6 has just started doing this. I noticed over the past 6 months a couple of times I got home from a short trip and the cooling fan was over running with a burning smell in the air, next day all was well again. Can't help thinking that something somewhere is melting.

Since i had all the light warnings come up, I haven't had a single issue, which is rather bizarre that is just happened once for 10 minutes then disappeared again. Im hoping it doesnt happen again, but if it does then im just going to go into VW/specialist to see if it can be worked out.

Clean all the bullb contacts, i've had a few BCMs act up cos of dirty contacts, once they warm up/dry out they work but untill they do they drive the BCM crazy, using the wronge bulb will also send a BCM into melt down.

This happened this morning on my Mk6 Golf. Every lamp in turn reported as faulty and indicators on permanently (not the mirror LEDs) and then mysteriously fixed itself and all working OK. I can find several posts describing the problem but none with a solution. Does it get worse? Or more frequent to the point where a dealer can run diagnostics?

Help appreciated. Paul.

Hi Paul,

Its been a few years now since I had the car, and this incident. What I do know is it never happened again - I didnt have to change anything, go to the dealers etc. It seemed to be a total random one off!

If your car is a diesel, the burning smell and the fans running were because you switched off the car before the DPF had finished regeneration.
