S3 8V Oil Usage
Discussion
I've done a quick search as I'm sure this topic will have been covered, but didn't really turn up anything.
My s3 is only just over 6 weeks old (1,100 miles) and on checking the oil yesterday it was on the absolute bottom edge of the 'safe' section of the dipstick.
I know the engine is new etc (and I've topped it up), but it's given me oil-use paranoia. How often should I be checking this? Is going through oil at such a rate (half a litre every 1,000 miles, really) normal?
I felt like I was forever under the bonnet of my RX8 checking the oil, so it's not an issue - I just wondered if I should have to or if this is a little excessive?
Cheers,
PPH

I don't think many people have the S3, but the Golf R obviously uses the same platform and there are a fair number of people noticing the high oil usage during the first few thousand miles. Have you checked your handbook for this? http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showpost.php?p=35708...
I've got an 8V S3 too, and after ~2200 miles it was about halfway in the middle section of the dipstick. Listed as the B section in the manual, anyway the raised one.
Needed about 400ml to top it back up. Nothing unexpected I don't think, but are you checking it ~2 mins after turning the engine off like it specifies in the handbook? Id still say your usage seems ok.
