I love the VW brand and want a Passat/Jetta as a first car also i feel a auto would be easier but see the DSG has Issues on the 7 speed DSG i think the 6 speed DSG is faultless have to check that does anyone know if the Passat/Jetta 2006-09 have the standard auto like the vw website says? Help appriciated, its for my first car and plan on spending upto £3'100 max

Unless you're jumping straight into heavy city traffic or doing a million miles a year I would start with a manual.

It's a very useful skill to learn properly and will (ok, arguably) make you a more thoughtful, considered driver.

The easy option isn't often the best one wink

Yeah definitely start with Manual. I didn't get my first DSG until last year when I was 23. I'm now converted but knowing how to drive a Manual is a very useful skill to have!

Do you have the spare cash to pay for a new 'box if it goes pop? If not get the manual.

A manual will really help you understand what the car is doing and what the gears do. You will learn finesse on the controls that you wont with an auto.

Plus an old cheap auto probably has more risk of issues than an old cheap manual as long as the clutch is in good order
