Further to a thread I posted in general gassing about my search for a new hatch I thought I'd ask this query here.

I'm looking at Fabia VRSs, the 1.4 TFSI. I am aware that these engines have some issues, however I'm not sure how many as a percentage have had problems and if we're likely to get a good one or not.

With this wariness in mind does anyone think that a Monte Carlo 1.2TSI remapped to around 130hp would make a suitable alternative for "moderate" sportiness?

Regardless of the car we'd be getting a 3rd party warranty and the var I prefer has a CTHE engine.

Yeah, I've spent a bit of time on Briskoda- we already own a diesel Monte. Just asking for some opinion outside the world of Skoda really as it seems that the issues with the VRS engines are particularly polarised on there when I get the feeling that really the CAVE engine issues aren't so much of a problem.

VRS. Even with the map you're still 50bhp down and probably some torque down.
In my years selling Skoda, we always bemoaned the fact that Monte Carlo had a more striking appearance to the VRS, shame they made the Monte Carlo look sportier.

If you're getting an extended warranty you might as well just go for the VRS

As mentioned above the Monte Carlo TSI even with a remap will still be some way of in performance

My mums had her Cave vrs for four years and I had mine for three before replacing with an Octavia neither have had any issues , but get a warranty to be sure , not sure the cthe engine is much more reliable though
