Afternoon all. I've just bought a 15 plate RS6, and wonder if anyone can help me with an insurance quandary.

The RS6 will be my third vehicle - the other two are still insured via my ex company (for a period of 5 years hence - part of my SPA on exit). The others do have NCB built up, but alas, all the insurers I have called will not take that into account, and want to start the new policy at zero NCB - here lies the snag.... I've tried the usual high street subjects - all saying that they will insure with transferrable NCB, but not without.

Is there a specialist broker or company that anyone can recommend? I will be taking delivery of the car tomorrow, and have clearly left it late, but with the understanding that I had plenty of options via GoCompare.

I lost all my NCB some years back due to selling car for financial reasons and not reinsuring anything for 2 years, I had the use of company vans anyway, after getting myself back on my feet which meant I could afford a car again I went out and bought a 2008 3.0sd X5, first car for 8 years. I explained the situation regarding having full NCB prior to giving up driving to various insurers who advised the max NCB had gone and was no more but they did however ask if I'd been driving company vehicles due my job as a service engineer and that if so they could accept NCB accrued on company vehicles BUT only 2 years but I saw it as better than nothing, obviously they needed proof of accident free driving so I just got a letterhead from the MD with a brief paragraph from him stating that I had been driving since XYZ with no accidents or claims and it was accepted with no issues at all, on top of those 2 years I've accrued a further 3 with my own insurance so its all happy days again

Its worth asking you insurer about company car NCB

try a multicar policy. they will give allowances for you on extra cars. I had the same issue as you with a third car.It was a useful way to build up some NCB

Oh, I could transfer the no claims, without a problem, if I was no longer using the cars I owned that were insured via the company. Sadly though, I am still using the cars and will be keeping those policies alive. It is the no-surrender of the existing NCB that is causing the issue sadly.

A multi car policy is also not of any use - unless I transfer all the existing cars from the company policy - and in doing so lose the exit benefit I negotiated.

Quite a minefield, this insurance lark. I always assumed a NCB discount covered the person making the claim, not the existence of another policy.

If you're buying approved used you can get 5 days *free* cover from Audi Insurance - just ask your dealer.

I'd give them a call anyway - for the first two years on my A4 they were surprisngly competitive.

I had a similar experience yesterday morning. I have two policies one with 12 years ncb and another with I think 6. I was picking up another van yesterday morning and thought it would be straight forward enough. Long story short, I declared my 12 years almost as a back up on the policy and have no no claims on the new one, but still managed to ensure it for £300. Admittedly, its not an RS6!

Have you tried Adrian Flux? We had zero NCB when we moved to the UK and could use letters from our past insurers, they recognised this after some messing around contacting various companys for verification. They seemed willing to go the extra to get the policy in place. Be surprised if they wont mirror your existing NCB in some way.

Thanks all.

I have insured the car temporarily with the Audi 5 day scheme until I can find a solution. It may be that the good lady inherits a car, and I switch them that way.

I've always found A-Plan to be quite helpful on unusual insurance requirements. They've assisted in the past customers of mine who are ex-pats, leaving company car schemes, non-doms, foreign licence holders etc...

Manning UK have always been pretty good for me. Have insured my Chimaera with them for years and now my C5 RS6 and Audi Cab. Worth a call.

Hi Bradders,

I ended up going with Hiscox insurance via First Point Brokers.

Living in London, the prices do shoot up a bit rapidly...

Good luck,
Lewy

I have mine on my fleet policy, with Zurich. It'll probably need a tracker mate. Give Christian a bell

Thanks to all for your replies - greatly appreciated.

I have managed to insure the car permanently via negotiation, on the company policy that the other cars are already on.

Again, a massive thanks to all who replied.

Cheers, Bradders.
