Surprised to see so little conversation on here regarding the RS3. Anyone got one on order, what is the timescale for delivery and what spec have you gone for?

I'm seriously considering swapping my Golf GTI out for one, but so have concerns with how much of a theft risk it will be, plus switching to flappy paddles! Would also need to keep it light on options, otherwise I'd be in slightly used RS4 territory!

So what generally is the best colour, I like the look of Nardo Grey (on the web) and custom colour Javagrün.

I currently have a 12 plate RS3 and looking at possibly replacing it with the new RS3. I've had 40 minutes this morning in the new RS3 and it certainly has evolved - I could certainly feel the increase in performance as a result of the BHP increase. Makes lots more noises - even with the standard exhaust system fitted to the demo car. The super sport seats are terrific and a must for me. I wasn't sure about the half leather/Alcantara steering wheel - I still haven't found a steering wheel to beat the original B7 RS4.
Unfortunately the roads I had available to me in the short time of the test drive were busy so I wasn't able to test it out on the twisty B roads :-(
I didn't think the Nardo grey did the demo car any justice - but colours are a personal preference.
My main reservation at the moment is trying not to get carried away with the options list - A £40k car all of a sudden becomes a £50k car - thats an expensive A3!
I was told that if I placed an order today I'd expect to see the car end of December 2015/ start of 2016.

Thanks for the information, I didn't realise that dealers had the RS3 in already (assuming that is where you test drove from). I'll have to pop down to my local on the next dry day for a look.

Our dealer (S3 on order) had a RS3 come in over this weekend. For demo's next week apparently!

Yep, just been down to mine, they have one in, being used for demos but as it was raining, I've decided to wait until in the week.

Coming from the Golf, think I'm going to be in for a shock with just how much I have to spec back in, like privacy glass etc (madness!)

Audi have given you seats and a steering wheel as standard; what more do you want? Someone peeling grapes for you? wink

Always been that way and likely always will. Ensuring you tick some extra boxes is where a good slab of Audi's money comes from.

Oh I don't doubt that, and I know Audi have always been that way, but when coming from an almost identical Golf GTi (compared to an A3), having to tick boxes for privacy glass, cruise and folding mirrors just seems illogical, especially on the top range model.

I thought it wouldn't be an issue as I'm not one for toys in the car, but keeping the budget sensible with Audi's calculator is impossible. A £40k car easily became a £48k car and that matched what the dealership told me...that all those ordered so far were in that range!

With an estimated part-ex of £22k on my car (1 year old), is the RS3 worth an extra £26k on top for the same functionality, just superior power and that noise...I'm not so convinced!

long test drive yesterday on some country roads. Great handling but will be a licence looser! Very tempted but wanted to see it in the "special edition" red but apparently no dealerships have it in. Was given a date of Christmas for delivery - which seems such a long way - am wondering if its worth waiting for one of the demonstrators to come up at least then can justify cost as has been said the extras (some of which you expect as standard) add a lot to the vehicle. Was told the dealership cant put theres up for sale for 6 months ..

I think the VW dealership rule is 90 days. The test mule at my local has been purchased already, but not until this grace period has passed, and then only for 2 months until the buyers own ordered car arrives! I still can't get over the price, just because of the extras. No way is it worth £26k more than my GTI.

Have you spoke about a deal on the price?

To be honest, no I haven't. I got the impression that they are selling quite a few and therefore don't need to do a deal (probably incorrect). The rep also didn't get back to me as promised to arrange a extended test drive, so...

Audi are pretty tight when it comes to deals at the best of times, but I would be amazed if a brand new model with a 6 month waiting list for delivery, would come with any discount at all, at the minute.

You might get some servicing pack or some such thrown in, but I'd be very surprised if a big discount (if any) was to be had. You might be able to negotiate an inflated price for your trade in, but AFAIK they tender them out for bids anyway, so it will be whatever they want to absorb on top for you.

Nothing ventured....

(Just wish they were going to do a saloon version of the RS)

Test drive arranged for next week.

I was told by rep that they will be bringing a manual version out next year together with the saloon version. How accurate this info is who knows. I'd prefer a manual.

I read it's a great road car point to point but not a great track weapon with the same Audi under steer from a 4WD platform.
....same old Haldex woes I expect......something BMW drivers always winge about!

I also read in Auto Express that they feel the GolfR is better value?
You can't emulate that 5 pot noise though!

Wait for the mad rush to be over and in 12 month time there will be some discounts,
