Well two weeks after purchasing her im not getting a lot of joy cleaning the 5 years of burnt on crap of them. Is there anything better than autosol that with literally cause a chemical reaction and dissolve it off?

On the other hand I enquired at my local Audi dealer and they want over £200 just for the replacement tips alone and they are spot welded on!

Any ideas?

Thanks

I complained about the state of ours while it was still in warranty - there's a TSB for it, but it quotes a part number for some sort of cleaning fluid priced at about £25! I've binned the bit of paper now, but I'm sure a dealer could find the details.

If it's black deposits and the underlying chrome finish is OK then try a few chemical treatments before attacking with anything abrasive. I'd suggest wheel cleaning fluid (Billberry or similar) or panel wipe/isopropyl alcohol (often referred to as IPA) which you can dilute with deionised water. A light bit of agitation should start to see some improvement.

I've not tried very hard on ours, but initial attempts seem to get them looking better fairly easily. I tend to only try after I've given the rest of the car a good clean, and by that point I'm losing enthusiasm!

Have you tried steel wool with the Autosol?

I cleaned mine up with the following treatment:

Using Halfords sock cloths

1. Autoglm tar remover

2. G3 cutting paste

3. G10 cutting paste

4. Autoglm SRP

Very fine steel wool will be ok, I was the same initially, but they got the crap off my tips so easily, in combination with the Autosol.

I used this stuff:
