Any RS5 Owners?
Discussion
Hi All,
I am looking for a new car and really like the look of the RS5. Would seem to tick a lot of boxes for me. Fast, comfortable, looks nice, goes well in all weathers and reliable. The other thing I like is that they can be had for around £30k which seems like a bit of a bargain. I have been searching the web and there appears to be mixed views so wanted to get views on anyone that has owned one or has any experience. They dont seem to have been massively well received?
Not to worried about running costs I want something with a decent mix of speed, fun and daily driver.
Other on my list:
M3 - test drove one last year and whilst I enjoyed it felt like I had to work hard to get the best out of it
997.2 - used to have a 996 and loved it, this is a great option but really don't want to go to £45 ish for a decent one. Cost may rule this one out
C63 AMG Coupe - had the 4 door version and loved it, a little heavy on consumables and in anything other than the dry a little mental. Like the coupe but maybe time for a change?
XKR - for some reason I cant quite put my finger on they don't do a huge amount for me. Like the looks and had the engine in my old XFR which was good. Not sure but doesn't really excite me.....
Any view greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

I had a couple of days in one and it suffers with understeer, quite nose heavy and in the end I opted for the RS4 which is a better drive and way more practical, though maybe not as pretty. Of your other options I would probably opt for the M3, though values might plummet given the new model. I had a couple of 997's and they're a great drive, but the tech and interior is very long in the tooth, sit in a 991 and you will see what I mean. I love the C63 but they're a bit hairy and the XKR is an acquired taste, lovely looking but not for me. Good luck shopping
I think they're cool and the V8 is as much of a rev monster as ever. Similar to the M3 it needs winding up to feel fast although with a sport exhaust they sound epic at every part of the rev range.
They are expensive to run and need final drive oil every 19k, S-Tronic oil every 38 and quattro sport diff oil also every 38. Basically, the 40k mile service is a biggy.
Discs last 30-40k and cost about £1300-1500 for a front pair with pads.
I've seen a couple suffer oil leaks from the rear diff and heard of box issues but not actually seen one. At £30-35k I think they're starting to look value now.

Is Sport diff on S4 B8 also serviceable? nothing in the handbook on that and I was under the impression that its roughly the same unit? They are expensive to run and need final drive oil every 19k, S-Tronic oil every 38 and quattro sport diff oil also every 38. I own one.
Had a B7 RS4 before it and it's lightyears ahead in the cabin in terms of looks and tech.
In dynamic mode it's a beast and so much fun, the exhaust sounds sublime.
In comfort mode it's just a fast coupe and an easy car to live with when sat in traffic etc..
It's a bit of a sleeper too as people don't realise what it is as they are not as popular as the RS4, but you do get a lot of car lovers commenting on it.
Understeer isn't really an issue, you just have to remember it's there if you are cornering fast, but having had a GT500 previously too it's nothing in comparison!
If you are in the Manchester area give me a shout and you are welcome to come and have a look around it.

I've got one aswell. Brilliant car. Ive moved from a 3.0L S5 because of the noise. With the sports exhaust in dynamic it sounds amazing. But stick it in comfort and you can happily eat up miles on the motorway.
You definitely need the sports exhaust and the grey rotor alloys. In my opinion the black styling pack makes it look stunning.
It can definitely be a sleeper if in black or grey but mine in sepang blue and cream gets a bit more attention than I was expecting- all positive. Especially from other Audi drivers which is nice.
You definitely feel the LSD working especially as my last car didn't have it.
Another thing I like is that there's not many RS5s around.
Didn't get an M3 because the interior is so bad after you've sat in the RS and there's quite a few around.
Didn't really like how lively the C63 was coming off roundabouts in the wet. Real all weather speed and stability in the RS.
Hope that helps!
Maybe selling mine soon due to a job change so let me know if interested!
