It's great on the motorway, plenty quick enough and I've managed 60+ mpg from mine. You can really hammer it and still get 45+ mpg.
Around town it's less impressive suffering from a lack of refinement. Dynamically it's good to drive, handles well, but ultimately the engine isn't that pleasurable to work hard, so although it feels as good as a GTI the experience overall comes up a little short. A great compromise car though.

My son just got one and he loves it.
Lovely interior, feels really well made and bags of torque...I'm lucky enough to drive a mix of supercars and an RS6 day to day and it still put a smile on my face when I had a go!
I didn't think it would feel as fast as it did...but from about 40-100 it is seriously impressive.

I'm on my second one as a company car now, the first being a mk6 and now the mk7 I've currently got.
As company cars when you're doing a few miles these really are hard to beat all round I think. Ok yeah, if you want the ultimate smooth motorway tool then these may ride a bit firm for you and there is obviously the big thing about a petrol engine ( the GTI) being more rewarding to work hard and rev, but all round these things are great.
I was in mine for a long motorway run today and averaged 58 mpg and that's not an inside lane economy run, it's just driving normally and going with the traffic, so I think that's quite impressive for the power of the car.
The handling is great, the chassis really is spot on and it's very compliant over twisty, lumpy, bumpy UK B roads - great in the wet too.
The seats are great and also look cool, the equipment level is massive compared to the equivalent priced Audi say.
Crack on and order, you won't regret it!
Here's a pic of my Deep black pearl one.

Thanks.
They look great, and it is a black 5 door I am considering so it's good to see what that actual car looks like.
Just need to work out if I should go for it. £350/month (no deposit) includes tax, insurance, all servicing, 20,000/year miles allowance, 24 month term, so just add fuel.
I am very tempted.......
